There is a setting called saturation, you can lower it so the screen will not be filled completely. It should make the effects less.

The wallpaper reacts to audio, make sure you turn audio recording on in the menu of wallpaper engine. It reacts to bass and will flicker on beat in the vibrant color as seen in the showcase picture.
