As a Hylotl fan, I'd say this is a really good mod you have here---honestly, I can't play without it. While I have a kinship with the novakid as a rootin-tootin Southerner myself, I prefer the dignified hylotl because I vibe with the artistic, artsy-fartsy nature of the race (as someone who loves to draw and write), but some of the vanilla dialogue is just tiresome. My one real complaint about the mod is that I wish the vanilla dialogue for the Earth Model was kept... it just seems strange to have the main character be nuanced about Earth's destruction rather than getting emotional about it. All in all, though, it's a good mod.

Not a mod for me, as I like how each Race has their own quirks and opinions, I really like Anonymous' suggestion, it would be awesome to mix and match race and culture. Even though this mod isn't particularly for me, it's still pretty awesome, took quite some work, and overall is great for people looking to roleplay differently. As for me, I'll just sit back and enjoy blastin' on those underwater bases. WHERE IS YOUR PACIFISM NOW!? PREPARE TO BE MY NEXT BONE CHAIR!!!

I think it makes sense for the hylotl to be wary of and dislike some floran things, but not to the extent that they do in vanilla, since the floran wars were generations ago. This seems like a good mod!

Recently started a Hylotl character, and I absolutely love this mod. Also gotta say, I didn't expect it to expand upon Letheia's role in their society , but it's a really nice cherry on top.

That would make more sense if races grew up in places that belonged to other races, but in Starbound, we see floran in floran tribes, hylotls in underwater hylotl markets, glitches in glitch kingdoms and so on.

It would be cool if somebody made a mod that allows you to choose culture separately from race.

What I mean is that you would have a Floran, but they would act and talk like a Hylotl would.

It's disrespectful and downplays the race. Making your character a massive specist or cannibal because of a race you picked is just stupid. I don't want my character to be a walking fictional stereotype, and I don't want them to be a jerk. Simple as that. Dialogue can be unique and neutral at the same time. What we have in the base game is just bad writing.

I personally think the Floran and Hylotl dialogue is fine, since it adds uniqueness, though i'd be neat to add civilized floran dialogue along with the original, the normal Hylotl dialogue should stay though, since it makes the Hylotl have a more interesting mindset, even if it is... not enjoyable, though there could be less winy Hylotl dialogue. (please remember, this is just a random opinion on the internet.)

Third - nation is a nation, and character is a character. On a completely different scale. Everyone knows those beliefs that russians are usualy grim and don't smile to strangers, brits are polite to the point of being snobby, americans are unnecessary loud and "bro"-going? Those are called "stereotypes" for a reason. Belonging to a certain ethnos doesn't actualy restrict your personality, you can still be a cheerful russian who smiles to everyone he sees, loud and obnoxious british punk, or quiet and shy american introvert.

Second - what a 100% fictional race have to do with real world history? The fact that their author took *some* inspiration in real world's nation doesn't mean that hylotl are obligated to copy said nation to the bits. If that was the case, we wouldn't even have sci-fi or fantasy genre at all, since guess what - celtic people didn't had pointed ears, druids couldn't actualy cast fireballs or control wild bees, etc.

I didn't want to imagine my player character as being so negative and fussy. I didn't edit NPC hylotl dialogue, they're still as "japanese" as you'd like, it's just your player character who's more practical and grounded (IMO). So it makes your character the outlier, the one who doesn't look at a bone table and go "ew, it's bone, this is murder"

Also for everyone who's not happy about this mod - "Don't like? Don't use"

@HIGH ON TOUHOU FUMO PANTIES Hylotl culture have vibes of Japan, sure, but their philosophy is nowhere near japanese. As someone living close to Japan, I can confirm that japanese folk are generaly very acceptive to other cultures and would rather admire someone's craftsmanship than whine over some imaginary reason. Sure, it wasn't always the case, but hey, starbound universe is a very modern (if not to say "futuristic") place, it only makes sence to use modern phylosophies as examples rather than their outdated versions.

While it may be canon, most of these mods are not. Canon no longer exists when you add a mod, it is just what you or some mod creator wishes it to be. And when all jumbled up, it is up to you, not the game.

Culture that makes it hard to enjoy them, especially when I'm a Floran main. Jussst cause we like bone chairs doesn't mean we're bad plantsss

This is great, it was tiresome to see the hylotl so narrowly focused on conforming to hylotl culture rather than just interacting with the world whilst having been shaped by it.

I'm not too fond of making them less interested in cute/flashy things. They have 3 eyes, and being from undersea environments, they probably see a wider spectrum of color. Maybe they had a survival reason to be more receptive to cuteness, like maybe they had a lot of cases of mistaking a normal fish for their babies, and being more cuteness receptive made them look more closely. I dunno. That quirk has a charm to it.
