thanks. im trying to use the Hammer Editor on and off, but I need to finish watching tutorials to get familiarized with what im doing.

Optimize your workspace (delete unnecessary windows such as manifest), use dev textures such as dev/dev_measurewall01a to remain scale and dev/dev_measurestairs01a to remain propper shape of the stairs, take examples from valve's maps, read about tools and entities you're gonna use for the first time (i suggest developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Hammer_Editor and if you still don't know how to do things watch youtube tutorials).

oh, by the way I am actually trying to make g-mod maps so if you have any good tips than feel free to let me know

It is used for testing cubemaps. If you're not a mapper you probably won't be interested in this.
