Of course you are welcome to re-model and re-paint them. I am more than content with a brief mention on the workshop page.
I would only say that I have never been anything other than an amateur at Blender so all of the models on my workshop were originally built by other creators - some of them preferred an official credit on the workshop when I contacted them - so if you see one of my items with multiple 'creators' listed then that is why and I'd encourage you to contact them to see if they want a credit on anything you publish.
I would like to have your permission to take some of your assets and repaint them, no other changes, just repaint.
Naturally I will make due mention in the workshop about your authorship. Thanks in advance.
