@Samuel_Bucher uhh super incredibly late reply but I didnt want to have a whole bunch of different books so the tech book is just one item that changes its texture depending on the tech level of the book

Hello. I'm currently trying to revive the retexture mod for TechSales, but I'm having some issues. Could you explain why changing the textures of the books isn't as simple as replacing the textures?

Sometimes images of the different tech books stay on the ground despite not being there. Even using the dev destroy command doesn't get rid of them

Small issue. One of the books seems to cause issue when right clicking it. No other book seems to cause troubles. The book in question being "New Ultra understanding - Mechanoid Beamcasting" from Alpha mechs.

hi gyro- ive seen that with some other mods too, i looked around at the time but there was not any way do disable logging even at the harmony level as far as i remember, i even tried making a 0-byte file where it generates, and making it read only but it failed to load mods :)

maybe the harmony modder has added it as an option now but those files did sometimes become huge megabyte monsters (especially with a lot of mods)

This mod seems to have harmony logging enabled, so it leaves a harmony.log file on the desktop every time rimworld runs.

Wish for the "Some way to create tech books to sell" feature. I hope the big scientist at my base doesn't turn into a floor-buster after all the research. And it can avoid demolition for my heavily funded research institute.

+1 for "Some way to create tech books to sell". I just came across the "Open World" multiplayer mod and the ability to create and sell tech books would allow for sharing technology with other players in a balanced way. I would actually only like that feature, I actually wouldn't want the ability to buy tech from other factions. I will also add that I'd like it to be fairly cheap as a way of sharing technology with friends without needing to spend excessive effort to share (otherwise it would be better for them to just do the research on their own).

This would be a cool feature! Could it be done in a way similar to how Vanilla Books Expanded has pawns write books?

An idea on how it might work: You could have the speed at which a book is finished be determined by a combination of the Research skill of the author and the work required (which I suppose could be a combination of the tech level and the point cost - or just the price of the book). Though, obviously, one could not have their pawns write a tech book for tech they haven't researched or unlocked yet. Also, perhaps the author has to have a minimum Research skill to write a certain tech level of book?

Any chance I can convince you to change it to 1 book item per tech level instead of 1 period? It's gets annoying not being able to put my books in different stockpiles per on tech level.

So I really like this mod, but the items seem WAY too heavily weighted to appear in quests. I swear I never get offers for anything else, to the point where I'll probably have to uninstall it just so I can start getting other rewards again.

In order for the textures to appear properly in menus and the like there is a harmony patch to tell the game which icon to use as all the books are the same base item. Not exactly sure what broke with the update as I didnt change anything to do with the textures.

I do have the retexture on. I assume turning that off will fix it then? Seems odd that a retexture would cause problems. Shouldn't it just be a patch on the texture?

@velcroboy333 that sounds like a weird mod conflict. The books have a base value but it gets overwritten based on the tech of the book.

All the books (in new condition) cost 10535 regardless if they are neolithic or spacer or anything in between. I've looked at the settings and it seems like it should be staggered. Am I encountering a bug? Or is this how it is? Seems weird...and expensive.

hi, while i havent specifically been to other camps to do trading, am pretty sure that i have seen books from orbital and modded traders with them... so maybe they have them too.

there are a couple of mods that can show you what a camp has for sale or what they buy etc... maybe one of those can help you do a test to see?

Can i ask is it only traders passerby's that have the books ? i go and visit loads of fixed traders and they seem to have nothing.

Thanks for the mod. I made a patch to combine your books with my Pawns Choose Research mod, and I really like the research system it creates.

The books can be used to research a specific tech 30 times faster or any prerequisite techs. They can also be used to grant inspiration to your pawns if you already have the tech or the book has some HP left after learning the tech.

The discription of this don't really explain things well..... x.x I just gives you insperation? The books cost WAY to much for that if you ask me. lol I thought they helped with researching.

That would make them more valuable if they gave you a bonus to research speed if your researching prerequisite techss and there in a bookshelf nearbuy or something

Could you make the mod compatible with High Tech Laboratory Facilities ( https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1542048177 ) or Hospitals Extended (which includes this mod; https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2121326566 )? Whenever my pawns try to read one of the books, they take it to one of the research buildings from the mods above, but then do nothing. They still do what they are supposed to do with a simple research bench.

Not sure if there is such a thing.
Is there a book shelf to store these books? the book shelf might add research bonus to the research bench, based on the number of books contained. books can also be taken out for use, reducing the research bonus given.
I know of a gloomy book shelf, but we cant store books in it i think.

I have also had problems with pawns trying to use tech books and failing. I'm running a tribal pawn with no techs to start, so the books are a really big deal for him to buy. They won't work with the "Thinking Spot" from Early Times mod (and Thinking Spot" mod included with it). I used Dev mode to add a Simple Workbench, and he was able to learn the tech no problem. I run 600+ mods, so there obvs could be something else interfering, but I thought that I would mention it, because it sounds like what happened to @IceMaverick. If my pawn survives up to Industrial / Spacer / Archotech times, I'll check with the High Tech Laboratory Facilities (continued) and More Linkables mods that can also change research benches.

I would LOVE for these to be frequent quest rewards, found in Ancient Shrines, and craftable at some sort of Scribe table or something, etc...

@keylocke yeah, they have no interactions but they don't cause issues with each other.
