@FortressBrawler I don't have a version with only shielding but if you peek into the source code I think there's a variable to turn grabs off ?
That said, I haven't done work on this in a long time so I'm probably not going to be starting now
You know, when you press (and hold) Jump+Attack at the same time to do an "assisted" short-hop. Please 🙏
As for why people want grabs, it's a different combo system, which can be fun to switch up with.
For sitting on shield, it's still a system with counterplay. The counterplay is to know what options you have. (normally aerials that have little enough lag that you can just poke them from safety, or projectiles and such)
It can be frustrating if you don't want to wait it out, which is why I agree with it not being in most new platform fighters, but it's still a neat mechanic to have as a modded extra.
Can you give an example of a custom character that doesn't work?
