I've never had a issue with it brightness wise, though I play with both a very high brightness on Gmod and on my screen. I will most likely improve on this in a update at some point, I will also remember this for future releases.

It'd make the map a lot better to play if you changed the skybox to a brighter one and increased the brightness of the sun. Dim environments can cause eye strain and stress.

Looks like the original BSP had a half baked version of the map, completely my bad. This issue has been fixed in the updates and users with issues such as water, models or displacements missing should download the update to gm_aoraki_v3
