i'm already working on it. i found an easier system. if i can get it to work well enough, i'll be resubmitting the crow with a halloween theme icon, it'll be part of the flying pets set just like this submission. maybe subscribe and stay tuned? or just keep watching the new submissions in the workshop? idk. we'll see.

I really like the idea and where you're going with it, but the flapping is way too stiff. I know having perfectly natural wingbeats is probably unrealistic, but I think you might be able to tweak them a little bit without compromising too much.

archimedes is valve's work, i wouldn't want to "steal it" as the workshop voters would be prone to accuse.

This should not be for medic, you should make a flying version of archamedes for medic.

meh, the hummingbird is good, but the bat and the crow have really static wing animations. The spy doesn't go good with pets, as he's a man of concealment and pets poop, and the crows bounce so much when they walk.

the items disappear while disguised, and go invisible along with the spy when cloaked. at least that's what happened in the itemtest map, only valve can test it further. animation is completely done in jigglebones, the only method the compatible with the importer at the time.

Q: Is the flight animation based on the flying doves in the Meet the Medic taunt? The animal still look rather stiff because the wings are entirely flat like a board (normal bird wings are curved downwards, esp on the upswing), they beat relatively slowly, and the body of the raven goes up and down between them while the wing tips stay level, like a fake bird on a string bobbing up and down. Relistically, the body should stay level while the wings move.

Raven for Medic:
CON: Medic already has his dove.
PRO: Medic seems to like birds, and a raven fits in with the various "plague doctor" loadouts.
Q: Why do the demo pictures show two ravens when there's only one? That's a bit of a mis-information.

Raven for Spy:
PRO: Fits the character. Looks cool.
CON #1: You need to make sure the pet becomes invisible alongside the Spy. I remember the problems with other floating all-class buddies (Balloonicorn, Monkeynaut) which had to be patched because they often stayed visible early on, giving the Spy away.
CON #2: T he raven is restricted to Medic or Spy. What happens if Spy is visible but disguises as a non-Medic/non-Spy class, or as a Medic who doesn't have a raven? Logically, the raven would need to be made invisible whenever the Spy disguises, or it would tip people off.
CON #3: The problem with all Spy cosmetics: most of the time people won't be able to see your awesome outfit, because you're either disguised or invisible.

Interesting concept, looks like the design is functional, and the bird looks nice (if a bit stiff). Maybe make the wings beat faster and add some random variable to the frequency of the wing beats, so that they alternate between faster wing beats (when going around corners) and phases of brief motionless gliding (when the character runs forward in a straight line longer than 2 seconds). But that's probably awfully complicated to implement. :-/

If you see a vulture following your team's Medic, be afraid, be very afraid. ;-)
