Under certain map settings in Hammer, you can change the skybox color (an OK alternative to a custom skybox) so that it's not pure white.

If the "sky" was the main aesthetic point, you should probably use something custom. Until now, it never even occured to me that I was looking outside.

In regards to the puzzle, it was pretty good. One thing that I'd change is to move the laser receptacle to somewhere on the button/bridge side of the lake, and have it on the wall that faces across to the other side of the lake, thus making it impossible to place the portal from the other side. This way, the player would have to cross to the other side via a portal in a specific location because they can't reposition it from the other side I hope that makes sense. Anyway, gave it a thums-up.
