Doesn't work(
The "eat food on ground" flag seems to give creatures license to interact with food objects on the ground and also within storage areas as long as they are under the same faction's (in this case player's) control and subject to automatic orders.
I have my suspicions that no actual food gain was tied to the activity, or maybe it is programmed in an odd creature specific way.
Regardless, this is simply a work-around that allows all animals to eat from the ground and/or food stores so they won't just starve to death if you control them.
i have animal buy and backpack mod but i dont see my gutter go and eat dead corpses
Over time, custom recruited creatures like Beak Things or Raptors will slowly starve if the change is not made.
Its as if the game creator never intended NPC squads to worry about hunger and as such did not bother to tie body/corpse eating to hunger replenishment.
