I don't think you can run away from Tengu's Vault. It starts locked, which means you need to wait for the game to fully load in to open the gate. This inevitably makes you detected by NPCs and one-tapped consequently (unless you wait for a long time for your legs to recover, and then try to run away... probably viable)

The easiest way to get out of vault IMO is by grinding up Assassination, then knock-down & imprison all the guards. In which process you get a stealth master and a meitou - along with hundreds of thousands of bounty on your head.

I'm a bit confused on how we are supposed to avoid getting enslaved at tengu's vault when i keep spawning beyond the gate. The guards just immediately detect me and attack, there a way around this?

@InfinityFire my favorite is either wandering swordsman(skips some grind but with consequences like HN doesnt like me ) or impoverished son - this one got mine soft spot,nice challenging start but with sword that easily outclasses many weapons. Anyways good job and thanks for providing me amusement:D

Impoverished Noble's Son. Run straight out of the gate once you loaded the game. You got 1.5 seconds to do it. if you survived, good luck with the skimmers, manhunters and other dangers ahead

guards in tengu vault tend to run out of bandages with time goes by, many time i died due to the lack of healing. maybe you can place the player just right outside the gate or without leg injury. it's imposible to escape right away as it is.

Thanks for your insight. I hope this helps those struggling with the the beginning of this start. Also, being enslaved right away isn't really bad at all and imo, is quite beneficial to the player as it provides a safe environment to hone your sneak and lockpicking skills - usually free healing if you get caught. All in all, every start can be made easy with enough knowledge (and abuse) of game mechanics.

In the Impoverished start, I use save and load to escape——every time when you load your saving, the guards will not move at the first few seconds. If you running, saving and loading, it is not hard to get rid of them. However, it is still a challenge to survive with -50,000 cats. But anyway, this is a very interesting mod. I love it !

So, the start with the impoverished son isnt even giving me a CHANCE to escape tengus vault, it literally plops me down right inside the gate where im surrounded by 20 samurai. I instantly get enslaved. Ive tried reloading it so many times and trying different spots to try and hide but you cant get anywhere. please please please change the start location to OUTSIDE of tengus vaul

Got pumped when I saw this, loaded the fathers sword and noticed it was a saber... Booo! Was hoping for a katana ha. Still cool scenarios!

For the Impoverished start, I do something cheeky, as soon as I spawn in I drop the Sword and get enslaved. Then farm XP until I can imprison every single guard XD

@Sloth, that is intended... as far as I know there is no way around it. The guards are meant to attack and imprison you.

The impoverished noble start spawns me INSIDE of Tengu's Vault. All the guards agro and imprison me, is there any way around this?

i would like to see a ninja clan start when youre with some shinobi and youre attacked by cannabals . you can return to their base which should be in the foglands . you should start with good sneak dodge and thievery . you start with nine companions . ( i might add you want to addalot of cannabals . )

He has a really high sneak skill.

Theoretically, they should not attack you once the ex-slave status disappears.

However, the NPC AI behaves a little differently in Tengu's Vault, as simply being there is considered trespassing. So even if you are not a slave, they will still attack on sight (most likely).


I know you said that you enjoy difficult things, but perhaps you should try another mod if you are stuck? I designed this particular start to be laughably difficult... and seeing that you don't have very many hours invested into Kenshi as of now, perhaps you're just not at that point just yet...
I don't mean any offence with this, if you want to continue with this start, be my guest! However, I personally think that going with a slightly easier start will make the game for fun for you. :)

I mean after my ex slave status dissaper if they will anyway attack me or let me pass :D

Yep! So since you were able to escape, I'm assuming that your sneak and lockpicking skills are rather high, yes? In that case, make your way to the nearest UC city (or any city for that matter, make your way to any trader (preferably the weapons trader) and steal your way to victory!

Obviously, sneak in at night and make sure that you aren't seen... usually you can steal up to 100k in weapons per night (maybe this is different for me, as I have mods installed that provide traders with more items to sell)
Nonetheless, stealing is a very, very easy way to make some quick cash, and get you some good gear. :)

Any tips for the Impoverished Noble start? I chose it for roleplay purposes, but I'm relatively new to this game so that 50,000 debt is difficult for me to get out of.

I did manage to escape the vault after being enslaved, I was able to keep my starter gear by dropping it all on the floor as soon as I was imprisoned.

Unfortunately, I cannot offer much assistance in terms of helping your situation. It's really up to you to find your own means of escape (and how the AI behaves).

I am aware of how irritating and tiresome that start can be (I made it myself haha), but all I can really say is to keep trying and make sure that you're sneaking and always lock picking. The whole escape really depends on how the NPC AI reacts to certain events however.
Sometimes you get lucky, most of the time you don't.

Perhaps try another start variant if this is too dificult?

trying your mon for very hard how long I will be in cage cuz I am in that cage veeery long and not happening and cant escape cuz they will beat me up
