You can try loading addons using the old custom folder method and seeing if that works - there should be a guide available on Black Mesa's guide page about it.
I'm far from experienced when it comes to Source modelling (or modelling in general, really) and whatnot, but would you mind if I took a shot at it? Just want to double-check first, heh.

@Desperado: The animations in the world model were changed in 1.0 to account for the HECU using the MP5's grenade launcher that renders pre 1.0 world models buggy when in NPC hands.
Just as an FYI, the animations within the world models are not meant to make the weapons animate - they handle code and events for NPC's using the weapon.
