Is there a similar mod for Abbasids?
It doesn't work when I start I get the feudal byzantine empire

Do you mind if I use some of this for a mod pack?
I'm having the same problem. Just switches back to feudal.
For some reason, this mod changes the imperial government to feudal when reloading saves
@theirishturtle Sure, be my guest.
Can I include this in my mod?
Can you make this compatible with when the world stopped making sense?
When set as Imperial Primogeniture, the laws window still says its "Elective Absolute Imperial Autocracy" for some reason.
is this mod somewhere else to download?
This is a great idea for a mod. However it seems to keep flipping me to feudal government and regular primo and ultimo after a few days of having the new government law set up. I do have other mods installed however after double checking none of them interact with the Government or succession law files.
Well, the byzantine government wasn't elective during its golden days.
Rayy Pidhst 2020
@Prater Oh really now? Please tell me about how the Roman Empire was actually feudal...
@Thot51AY3R The Mod was designed with all expansions enabled; it works fine with Conclave - or at least should. In general the requirements mirror the HRE requirements in that sense.

@masterdavid No, the imperial government type has been modified to include these succession types. Assuming nothing goes wrong and no bugs creep up changing the succession law will maintain imperial government.
Dewii 2019
Question: does using these succession types change the Byzzies to a feudal government, or does it stay imperial?
Does this mod work with Conclave or is it exclusive to vanilla? I've just started a game, but I checked the requirements and it showed "Centralized" as a requirement, and I'm not sure it will be possible to select with Conclave on.
The -10 opinion should be removed. Imperial Elective for the Byzantines is neither historical, nor "the Byzantine way". It is a paradox invention.
Great mod. Though I've always felt like the Byzantine Empire should be more like Open succession for Islam.
@KAISER Yes, the Roman Empire and ERE use the same method to determine their locked-in succession. This will affect them equally.
Kaiser 2019
Does this also effect the Roman Empire?
Oh, that's unfortunate. CK2 might have had an update that is interrupting. I'll look in to it and see what I can do.
imperial primogeniture doesnt work
it makes ur government agnatic none
Miath 2019
Thank. You. So. Damn. Much.
Thank you! Works perfectly!
Yeah, Ck2 can be really fussy with exactly how you do things. Here, I've packaged up a ''new'' version for you [drive.google.com]: it's identical except opinion modifiers are what they normally are for vanilla laws. It's a normal zip file distributed by Google Drive. Just extract it into the paradox/mod/ folder and it should appear when you open up CK2.
Thank you so much for the response! I didn't have trouble finding the opinion modifier and changing it, but I think the mod no longer works. I went to set up a new game and disable the new factions in the options, but they are no longer there. The game "sees" the mod though and it shows as active.
@Arinthian

Sadly I cannot affect opinion modifiers with game rules, so I'd have to make two different mods. That being said it's really easy for you to mod your mod yourself to remove the modifier from your game!

1. Open the folder where the mod is stored (Documents/paradox interactive/mod).

2. Unzip the mod "elective_away.zip"

3. open the file /commons/laws/elective_away_succession_laws.txt

4. remove the lines that say "vassal_opinion = -10". In the seniority law it's -15, because the vanilla seniority law has vassal opinion set to -5. you might want to just change the number instead of removing it outright.

5. save and close the file

6. Zip the mod back up.

you might want to read the CK2 Wiki page on "making a mod" and set your custom mod up as it's own mod, mostly just skipping step 6 and leaving it as a folder, and setting the .mod file to "path" instead of "archive" and changing the name of both. That way if I update this mod your change won't be overwritten.
Any chance the negative opinion modifier can be disabled? I'm desperate to find something that effectively lets me pretend that this succession type was never a thing.
Sean 2019
Awesome mod. I hate how the current succession law is basically who would win:
1) A born in the purple heir with great traits that's been groomed for 25 years to be the perfect heir, accompanying the Emperor on campaign and married to an attractive genius with good kids
or
2) some doux that slipped the ecumenical patriarch a tenner under the table and is a lunatic and possessed.
And you get number 2. The duce. I mean, doux. whatever.
@Wepx It should be. The "new" succession laws essentially just test and see if the holder has the imperial elective, has the imperial government, or has one of the two romes as a primary title, in addition to the normal restrictions of the vanilla laws (f.i not being a patrician, not being a muslim, e.t.c e.t.c).

If you load up your old save with this mod all that's going to happen is that the ERE suddenly has access to this mods version of the 3 feudal succession laws.
is it save game compatible? I'm thinking of restarting my Alexiad because of the bullshit succesion law
Strawman Army 2018
Love this mod thanks.
Do you perhaps know of one that just outright removes the existence of elective entirely? I don't want it in my Byzatine Empire at all; not even as an option.
@Korvallys - I could, but I'm not sure that I will. It's a bit of work for an addition I'm not convinced is all that reasonable. With the three feudal successions you could reasonably argue that the ERE could implement them. However Eldership is a bit on the iffier side. Gameplay wise I feel it's probably just better to play the african cultures that have eldership and support it. While I haven't looked into the exact implementation of the events and decisions relating to eldership I'm slightly nervous that just plopping it into the ERE will break most of them - as they might be looking for the law "eldership" instead of the actual succession mechanic.
Can you add Imperial Eldership perhaps?
Eothas Top Guy 2018
You are a true hero, god bless you.
Andro 2018
God bless you! When i first saw what Paradox did to ERE i was in shock.
Thank you so much for this mod, you're truelly a lifesaver :guardian:
