Yeah in the added Settings Menu to the minimap section, there's a section to customize hotkeys.

I personally don't see any issues with the fleshed out pin screen, but I could potentially see arguments for there's just too many pins; less is more; yada yada yada . If there's a filter checkbox system, that counterpoint would be moot because you'd have the option of just hiding extraneous pins for Spies, Governors and etc .
As for where those filters would be placed, perhaps it can be placed on the tab where Add Tack is displayed.
e.g: Placing a Campus tack will autoname it as Campus .
@NicaEM - Added flood/volcano/coastal flooding icons.
@kissshot - I've had no problems loading the largest size of map supported by the game. (I'm aware there are mods that add larger map sizes. As I suspect the reason Firaxis didn't include even larger sizes in the base game is they knew things were unstable, there's not really anything I can do.)
