These Residential buildings, do people actually live in them, or do they just function like the Worker Barracks buildings and increase efficiency? And if it does function as housing, is it immune to pollution?

@Overlord: With the DLC Industries, each type of industry need to have a "residential" district ; )

I'm little bit confused about the industries requirement. Does the industries dlc brings anything like "industrial residential"?
