There is a connection between Wallpaper Engine and Synapse. If you dont like the effect you could remove Wallpaper Engine in Synapse under the "Connect" catergory on the menu line above.

Both [4K] and [1440P] RetroLake and their preset list (which you could use as a starting point for your own config) were successfully updated to version 13. If you do want to see the difference between [FullHD] V.10 and the updated ones, check them definitly out!

Preview: I'm thinking of another fork of RetroLake with audio visualizer bars behind the mountains. I might call it a testbench and release it before I actually put such a feature into the offical branch of RetroLake (could possibly contain issues performance/config wise). Though I would have to rework again and while I'm doing it I could add another resolution (e.g. ultrawide).

On the technical issues I can't really help. Your specs should be way enough though. What I would try is to make sure that the fps setting is high enough (I use around 60-90fps), play a bit with the process priority and try all more or less heavy wallpaper scenes to compare. Unfortunaly I can't test RetroLake with a Ryzen 5 2600x, but if I were you I would look more into software/setting/driver issues. You could try looking general help in the Wallpaper Engine discussion threads.

What you could do furthermore would be to test the WQHD and 4K versions, as they are on another version and config and you can play with the internal settings way more (e.g. removing the water). If nothing helps and you still want the asthetics you could use the FullHD Performance Version (it's a prerendered video, 600MB, so quite large).

Is there any reason why a wallpaper like this is running really laggy on my system? I have a Ryzen 5 2600x and a gtx 1060 3gb, and I have 16gb ddr4 RAM. It seems that lots of wallpapers like this are really laggy for me.

UPDATE for RetroLake [4K] and [1440P] (mirrored): Version 11 is configurable and thus changeable. Want the lines to light up sooner? Go for it! You want to remove the water effect and clouds? Sure, do it! Play with the settings, RetroLake is better than ever!

FullHD will remain as it is, as an alternative performance version besides the video one. If you want the full visual power you can switch to eighter 1440P (performance impact should not be that harsh in comparison) or the 4K one.
