As for what tentof said, there's plenty of air cargo operations in Europe too - Europe imports/exports to places other than the US after all. DHL and TNT are both European based with their own aircraft fleets and airlines like British Airways/Iberia (IAG Group), Lufthansa and Air France-KLM have their own cargo operations with dedicated aircraft.
Whilst dedicated air cargo operations might not be used too extensively for many European countries on a domestic level, it is still heavily used between European countries and the outside world.
