I have not used this mod in a long time so this might be fixed. I one day decided to check out the mod and was greeted with pure horror as after hitting the Z button to delete the gnome it came back about 30 seconds later without me spawning it. I tried using the cleanup everything ability and it didn't work. This isn't a scary story I made up! This actually happened and i had a nightmare about it!

bpingry Hds46 has a friendly gnome that dies when you ignite him, but he goes through walls, you could maybe combine his code with your code (well.... if he allows it)
