perhaps when you start the game it will give you a hint to what your allergy is? seems pretty gay to just die instantly from eating a cactus.

I just feel like the game becomes even more difficult with this mod.
And not in a good way.
The fact that you can lose 100 hp and 75 hunger or even DIE from eating a food you had no idea you were allergic to just feels like a cheap way to go out.

I agree with SP1CY, there's not enough science in the mod.
I can already hear players that join a server whining because their severely allergic to meat while playing Wigfrid or the like.

Add some sort of way to test allergies, like a tool that would cost resources and drain 5 HP on use, but would tell you one of your allergies and how severe it is.

I am aware of you're logic behind not knowing what allergies you have, but in reality these people came from society where they probably already learned most of there allergies, could you add an option to make you know your'e allergies, or some of them when you start the game?

Zelynda, I haven't tested it with other mods, but it should work just fine. What it does is it listens for when you eat something, and then compares that eaten thing to your allergies. If the eaten thing is one of the things you are allergic to, then you get penalized. If the thing you ate is something from a mod, then it should still work, though you will never be allergic to it because the allergy options only include vanilla food items.

Alisha, I'll try to implement random severity, just for you.

If it isn't hard, I would love it if you implemented to the mod as a confguration so for example in the settings: mild, moderate, severe, random. I would use this mod a lot more if it had random allergy severity. Thank you for reading.

Oh, so that'd be like real life, then--the asking if the meatballs have carrots in them. "There aren't any peanuts in this sauce, are there?" Heh. Good to hear that neutralizing things into harmless mixes still works, then. (Like how you can already turn one monster meat + 3 poison mushrooms into: yummy filling meatballs!)

Dumb question--what about custom foods? I don't mean in terms of allergies, but just...is it ssafely compatible? Like, if I ate a radish from "Pickle It", would the mod (a) not recognise it and do nothing, (b) go "This was growing in the ground so it must be a carrot" and put it under the "carrot allergy" category, or (c) DOES...NOT...COMPUTE! and the game dies instead of you.

(I myself like jerky--it does take a while to get going but once you do it's worth it, because of the healing and sanity boosts. It does help to live near a plentiful source of rabbits or frogs, however.)

@Alisha, random allergy severity is kind of interesting and wouldn't be too hard to implement, but I don't have much desire for it.

@Tayplaysgames, jerky is pretty good resource and I suggest giving it another try. It isn't always good to make, but it makes meat last longer and sometimes it's nice to have an item that raises all three of your stats a bit. It does take a long time to make, but that's not as bad when you are trying to make it last longer in the first place.

I also tried to design the allergies so that this would not be as glaringly obvious as it could be. For example, I omitted a berry allergy because berries are potentially used in a lot of dishes, but are optional, and they are quite common to cook with. People would comment on how they can eat meatballs made of berries, but not berries. There are still imperfections, though; someone allergic to eggs can still eat meatballs that were made with eggs, but they can't eat pierogies because pierogies REQUIRE eggs.

@Zelynda, those are good questions and maybe I should clarify some of this in the mod description, or just add a list of allergy groups so everyone knows what they are.

The game does not remember what ingredients were used to make crock pot foods, or what was used to make small jerky. I briefly considered implementing something so that the game DOES store this information for each meatball, but I decided not to because it would make it, in my opinion, needlessly complex, and also it would be difficult for me to program. (Also, when you added two differently made meatballs to the same stack, would they cross-contaminate? That would be neat.) I don't want people to have to constantly ask if someone used carrots to make the meatballs, and such.

Here's a question--if you're allergic to a certain kind of meat (say, for this example, frogs' legs) and you turn it into jerky...are you STILL allergic to it? Does the mod _know_ which jerky pieces were made from which meats? How 'bout meatballs?

Pierogies also hurting you if you are allergic to eggs I get, but meatballs are one of those "throw everything in and it comes out the same" more generic kinda recipes, and all small jerky looks the same once it IS jerky, so...I was just wondering.

Is there anyway to set the allergies as random? So if you have a wheat allergy its random from mild to severe.

I adore this idea, but I think it should be adjusted a little bit.
First, Maxwell and WX-78 will "skip" moderate allergy phase and just die. How about making -60 drop for moderate one instead of 100?
Second, I suggest taking sanity points instead of hunger. Allergies tend to cause brain fog.

I think I finally managed to fix this mod. Give it another chance! Thanks for being patient. Let me know if there are more bugs, or feature requests.

I'm trying to figure out the bug that xenocythe helpfully pointed out. It doesn't make much sense to me but I won't ramble about the lua structure of this game. I will update when I can.

Mod crashes the game on servers with caves enabled upon selecting a character. Tested with this being the only mod enabled.

I have to say, I like the risky and unpredictable aspect of this mod, but the fact that you straight up risk death almost all the time for doing what the game's title tells you to do...

It feels unfair.

@Giih, I hope you see this because Steam's workshop comment mechanic doesn't work very well; you can't reply to comments, and you don't have direct messages enabled. I don't know what caused that crash; the allergies mod uses pretty simple code to deduct HP. I've never used WhaRang, but it looks like she has some weird HP stuff that might be affecting it. For now, you can use a command to try to get her character alive again. Assuming that your friend is the only WhaRang on the server, try c_findnext("wharang").components.health:Kill()
