My favorite map.

True. Hmm... I know! There is a large underground aquifer that feeds the lake via springs. We'll go with that explanation. :laughing_yeti:
Star_origin 30. aug. 2024 kl. 10:04
Very nice map!
Adding a river flow into the lake may make it more realistic :steamhappy:

This is one of the best maps ever! It's perfect for what I do with CS. And every view, uphill or downhill, is breathtaking. Thanks for this!

That's very helpful, thanks! :steamhappy:

from my understanding the key to dams has 2 major factors, first is the width of the dam. the second is a little more complicated but ill see if i can explain. basically it is the difference in elevation between the back and front of the dam. You want high elevation, then dam, then low elevation, in practice this can be infuriating though. In my experience you just have to fiddle with it a bit until you find a good spot, i recommend saving before hand as sometimes after the water balances out you will get more or less power.
I hope this helps, although i know "just fiddle with it" isn't a great answer lol.

Fingers crossed!
tibbadoe 3. nov. 2021 kl. 16:56
Ok, I'll keep it running and see what it does. Hopefully it will resolve itself eventually. Thanks!

When I test the dam locations on maps, I have to build the dam and then hit fast forward for quite some time. Power fluctuates for even more time after it comes online, so I continue fast forwarding until it stabilizes. It's annoying.
MrMiyagi  [ophavsmand] 3. nov. 2021 kl. 6:58
Hi there. The hydro dams in this game are SO FRUSTRATING and absolutely not explained well!!! I feel your pain. There's some factor causing that and it's a matter of figuring out what that factor is.
From what you describe, it sounds to me like you have to wait for the little lake to fill and the flow to then stabilize. That can take some time. The dam will work briefly, then pause as the water fills up behind it (as you describe, "drops down the waterfall right before it gets to the dam and no longer generates any power"). Then, once the little lake that's behind the dam fills up completely, the dam will start working again. This can take some time - have other power generation available.

It's dumb, but that's how it works. This is a moment when you wish the water physics of the game weren't so realistic. :winter2019joyfultearssnowman:

Nice map but the dam doesn't work for me. I built the dam exactly where the instructions told me to, and it worked for a while, but then the water stopped flowing into the dam properly... it just drops down the waterfall right before it gets to the dam and no longer generates any power. Anybody else have this problem? I'm really frustrated as I downloaded this map mainly for the dam!

@juan.torres2411 hey there, double check all your streets very carefully for any one way streets going the wrong direction (click on a road as if you were going to place one). Check all the arrows to make sure they're going the right way, in particular the highway on and off ramps. Whenever this has happened to me, that's been the cause. Something super simple preventing them from getting to their new houses. :winter2019joyfultearssnowman:
juan.torres2411 7. okt. 2021 kl. 18:59
Not sure whats happening but the cims are not moving in. They arent using the roads connected to the first tile.

This is probably my favorite map that I've played on. And I have played on a LOT of maps, great work!
jaye_halliwell 6. feb. 2020 kl. 15:07
Thank you ☺️
MrMiyagi  [ophavsmand] 6. feb. 2020 kl. 14:04
The trees I used are the 2 default Redwoods and I believe the default Beech. The Corsican Pine and perhaps the Yew might go well with the darker Redwoods. Try out TPB's forest brush mod, which makes it so easy to make forests with multiple trees in one click. :)
Personally, I'd add custom workshop trees, but that's my preference. :chirp:
jaye_halliwell 6. feb. 2020 kl. 9:29
Hi @MrMiyagi, loving the map! Could you tell me which trees you've used, atm I'm using moveit to copy and paste trees you've already placed? Thanks 😁

Ooh~ I now I gotta try this out.
MrMiyagi  [ophavsmand] 31. aug. 2019 kl. 11:38
Update: major change to sea level and river to strengthen hydro flow for more powerful dams. To build your hydro dam, click the dam function once on the end of one of the walls (super easy - they snap together), then drag your cursor over to the other wall end (again, snaps for you), click again and you'll have around 600 to 700 MW power!
MrMiyagi  [ophavsmand] 31. aug. 2019 kl. 9:49
Hi, picture number 8 shows where the dam can go. Look for the grey semi circle across the river. In order to place a hydro dam here, you will have to expand your city out to that square. If you play without mods and you've expanded to the full 9 squares but do not have that tile, then you're out of luck. Consider using a 25 tiles mod. It is a very simple unlock code and won't harm anything. 81 Tiles is a complex mod and if you aren't confident in using mods, I wouldn't use that one.
Just fyi, though, a dam on this map won't produce much energy until I find time to edit the map to improve the flow.
Real Xronn 31. aug. 2019 kl. 6:44
How do you place the dam outside the city limits?
MrMiyagi  [ophavsmand] 19. aug. 2019 kl. 12:40
Cool! I hope it gives you lots of fun and the landscape to make a nice backdrop for your city!
Mazisky 16. aug. 2019 kl. 15:40
After weeks looking for a great map to play i have to say i've finally found my favourite!!!

This map is the greatest example of balance. It has a bit of everything, it's like the jack of all trades of maps.

I think it is the number one for temperate maps.

Also, i have to say another thing: while many maps look artificial somehow, this looks and feels absolutely natural and it's the main reason i was sold on it.
MrMiyagi  [ophavsmand] 2. apr. 2019 kl. 18:14
No prob! And sorry, RUM, I forgot to answer :/
MrMiyagi  [ophavsmand] 2. apr. 2019 kl. 18:12
Just fyi, the factors that affect hydroelectric generation in the game are speed and volume of flow, height change between the water at the top of the dam and the water at the bottom of the dam. Found a good guide, I will be reading it myself. https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=409777904
Kelven 2. apr. 2019 kl. 18:08
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Aside from the dam placement not working out, I'm definitely loving the map.
MrMiyagi  [ophavsmand] 2. apr. 2019 kl. 17:55
Well, it's a decent map for almost anything else. The hydro power not being what I wished ti to be is disappointing. All I can do is do better next time. The fantastic new vanilla map Old Man River by Bringer of Fire has the neat idea of building the hydro dam *into* the map (yet the map stays vanilla). I may do that for a new map. I will be able to use the new *test map* function to see how it works in game and make quick changes to it so I can be sure it works well for everyone.
MrMiyagi  [ophavsmand] 2. apr. 2019 kl. 17:55
Yep. I only get 112 max. :/ As you discovered, RUM, placement of hydro dams in this game is ridiculously hard. What sucks is that it costs so much, because almost invariably you're going to have to demolish and try again.
I tried experimenting just now with different ways you might be able to fix this in a currently running city (mods being the only solution). Most of the options (raising the lake level, lowering the sea level, adding a water spawn on high power right before the dam) really aren't great. Raising the lake level and putting a high flow water spawn above the dam is impossible anyway, because the start square land is just a little bit above the lake height. Meaning it would flood.
Kelven 1. apr. 2019 kl. 16:43
Same issue as RUM. Placed dam inbetween the stone walls and am only getting 96W out of it.
Shokwave 17. dec. 2018 kl. 23:46
What's the output supposed to be when a dam is placed there? Because I can't get it to remain stable any higher than 96MW where the "instructions" indicate.

Also, getting the placement to match the picture is hard enough as it is.
