Hint: Look for the Customizable Building Name Generator mod instead.
Bruce 28. juni kl. 23:36
Don't bother with this. It's not this guy's fault; the mod that it depends on, Custom Namelists, does not work reliably anymore.
Lady Moon 26. nov. 2024 kl. 2:52
Every time I load my save, the original names appear. If I apply the changes within the mod, they go back to being custom. It’s tedious to have to do this every time I load my save.
Rana cascadae 28. aug. 2023 kl. 22:07
Hello, I followed the instructions on how to replace everything, but I'm still getting random business and personal names not from my namelists showing up even though I've put those strings in the blacklist file - am I doing something wrong?
yao_zhou 1. jan. 2023 kl. 3:02
Mod is not able to name new districts
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 19. juni 2022 kl. 6:38
I might be that a recent update to the base game has broken the "Custom Namelists" mod.

At the same time, in che comments for the "Custom Namelists" mod, you say -- I always end up with "STREET_NAME_PATTERN:0" -- which sounds like there is an XML error in your .namelist file(s).
FlipposTheFox 18. juni 2022 kl. 8:07
Because I cannot for the life of me get it to work. Not with my own, not with your list nor any other lists i try to replace the names in.
I absolutely hate to be that guy that says "it doesn't work" when he is missing something incredibly important. But I am someone who has literally taken the time and written his own scripts to get his flight sim to work with custom peripherals, so how I can be this incompetent in getting this damned mod to work is beyond me. I tried absolutely everything. My only idea is it is one of the hundreds of mods i have enabled and going through each and every one is not something I will do. My last hope was that it was a UTF8 encoding issue or something but you're right, no reason they shouldn't work. I might some day return to this mod with a clean install of cities skylines, cheers!
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 12. juni 2022 kl. 6:38
Why would you take that? They're just letters. But you yourself have to put them in the files.
FlipposTheFox 12. juni 2022 kl. 5:11
I take it greek letters aren't supported?
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 2. juni 2022 kl. 19:54
The .blacklist file included with this "mod" is the vanilla names are removed. Get rid of, or modify, the .blacklist file to add to the vanilla names.
Cubica 30. maj 2022 kl. 5:53
I thought this namelist would add to the vanilla one. It instead replaces it. :steamsad:
Can't find the original vanilla namelist anywhere. Which name does it have?
poncowolo 14. feb. 2022 kl. 2:33
Still working, and thanks for making easier to custom the names, cheers
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 14. feb. 2022 kl. 0:53
I have no idea.

I cannot use post-Green Cities versions of the game, as newer versions lock up on my computer.
poncowolo 12. feb. 2022 kl. 0:46
is it still working with airport dlc?
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 29. nov. 2021 kl. 0:00
Shatcs,
You can use the files included with this pseudo-mod as templates for creating your own Arabic names.

I thought I had clarified that info on the description page, but it seems I hadn't until now.

You welcome, and I hope it makes your game more enjoyable. But really, all I did was to format someone else's work to be usable by the "Custom Name Lists" mod.
Dunelaw 15. juli 2021 kl. 14:30
Ok nice now I've found out! Thanks for the great mod
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 14. juli 2021 kl. 14:33
Please read the comments.
Dunelaw 14. juli 2021 kl. 12:37
Sry where do i have to put the .namelist files to make it work?
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 19. juni 2021 kl. 4:19
Some programs can read a file that another program has open, some cannot. It depends upon the sort of "lock" the first program has placed on the file and the sort of "lock" the second wants to place.
Delna Cendra 19. juni 2021 kl. 3:44
I'm don't know enough in computer science but yeah I guess this'd make sense
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 16. juni 2021 kl. 5:59
I'm guessing that if you had the list files opened in your text editor, it had a lock on them and thus the game was unable to open and read them.
Delna Cendra 16. juni 2021 kl. 2:44
Well thanks a lot for the help !
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 15. juni 2021 kl. 22:23
Well, I'm glad it is now working for you.
Delna Cendra 15. juni 2021 kl. 14:32
I posted a comment here to explain what happened, i don't know where it went weird. Maybe I forgot to click on "post".

==The way I named my sub-folder is always the name= string in the first balise of each lists file themselves named the same + .blacklist and .namelist.==
Sorry English is not my first language, by "Balise" i meant "Tag".

The issue was that I had two copies of the .DLL file, also, I had the files oppened in my text editor. Closing them fixed the issue. I haven't found a way to make it work for the addons/mods folder though, I tried to unsubscribe but this had no effect.
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 15. juni 2021 kl. 11:09
What did the issue turn out to be?
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 15. juni 2021 kl. 3:33
==I tried to delete the .DLL under the 255710 folder and then despite having it in the /Addons/Mods folder the mod don't appear anymore in the content manager.==

Doing it that way, I suspect that you'd need to unsubscribe from the "Custom Name Lists" mod. I *suspect* that the reason it doesn't appear in the Content Manager after moving it to your personal "~\Addons\Mods" is because the Content Manager knows it as a subscribed mod, yet the .DLL is not under the Workshop folder.

==The way I named my sub-folder is always the name= string in the first balise of each lists file themselves named the same + .blacklist and .namelist.==

I don't understand what you mean by that.

Could it have anything to do with file/folder permissions?
Delna Cendra 15. juni 2021 kl. 3:05
Thank you for answering !
I tried to delete the .DLL under the 255710 folder and then despite having it in the /Addons/Mods folder the mod don't appear anymore in the content manager. I also tried to delete it from the /Addons/Mods folder and to put everything back in the 255710 folder, the mod would reapear in the content manager but still no trace of the custome names in-game. I tried with the Viennalist as well and the names don't show up either.
The way I named my sub-folder is always the name= string in the first balise of each lists file themselves named the same + .blacklist and .namelist. I really don't see what is causing an issue here.
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 14. juni 2021 kl. 18:33
I don't see any obvious syntax problems with your list files.

On my game computer, I have the "Custom Name Lists" mod moved to a subfolder under the "~\Addons\Mods" folder, with my custom names files in a subfolder under that.

I think it should also work to put your custom names files in a subfolder under the "Custom Name Lists" mod's subfolder under the Steam Workshop's "~\steamapps\workshop\content\255710" folder.

When you put the "Custom Name Lists" mod's .DLL in the \Addons\Mods folder, is there still a copy of it under the Steam Workshop's "~\steamapps\workshop\content\255710" folder? I think that would cause a conflict.
Delna Cendra 14. juni 2021 kl. 2:14
Update : doesn't seem to be the Autoline mod
Delna Cendra 13. juni 2021 kl. 17:25
For reference, here the .namelist file : https://pastebin.com/e7WjxzKw
and the .blacklist file : https://pastebin.com/vJSijhnK
Delna Cendra 13. juni 2021 kl. 17:10
Hi Ilion,
I'm running into circles, my custom namelists don't seem to work what ever I do. I've tried put the .DLL in the \Addons\Mods folder with my namelists trying to put them inside and outside subfolders and this changes nothing. I have also tried to unsubscribe from any other custom name list mods yours included. This changes absolutely nothing. A possibility I've thought about is that it's in conflict with the Autoline mode or that I have made a mistake with the syntax.
ASOM30 17. maj 2021 kl. 19:49
No I don't.
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 17. maj 2021 kl. 19:44
Do you perhaps have the "District UI Tweaks: Hide Names" mod subscribed and activated?
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 17. maj 2021 kl. 19:39
I don't know what you mean by "the circle is blanked".

As best I recall, you can't edit a district name from the "district painting" mode. Rather, you click on the district info box (on the map), or select the "Info Panel/Districts" icon and then click anywhere within the district.
ASOM30 17. maj 2021 kl. 18:52
Okay without when add a District the circle is blanked and can't edit it.
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 17. maj 2021 kl. 17:37
I've never noticed that as an issue ... I'll try to look into it.

At the same time, as noted on the main page, this mod doesn't *do* anything itself: rather, it supplies several .namelist files for use by the "Custom Namelists" mod (so long as the .namelist files are copied to a location from which the "Custom Namelists" mod can read them). Thus, one doesn't actually need to activate this mod after subscribing to it.
ASOM30 17. maj 2021 kl. 14:30
With this turned on when add a District no name shows up I think.
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 17. maj 2021 kl. 14:20
The CustomPlaceNames.namelist file included with this mod may affect the *generated* district names, but once you *edit* a district name, that is the district's name ... same as with a road.
ASOM30 17. maj 2021 kl. 13:50
Does it effect editing Districts name?
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 7. dec. 2020 kl. 17:31
I'm glad I happened to be using my internet computer, and happened to be browsing the Steam workshop, so that I was aware of your question.

I hope you enjoy this "mod".
Bonez 7. dec. 2020 kl. 17:24
Hallelujah! That's all I needed to do. Probably should've just tried it before asking, but thank you for responding so quickly!!
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 7. dec. 2020 kl. 17:19
On my game computer, I did move the .DLL to a folder under the "~\Mods" folder, and I have the list files in a subfolder under that.
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 7. dec. 2020 kl. 17:17
As I recall, you need to have your list files in the same folder as the .DLL (or perhaps in a sub-folder of the folder the .DLL is in).
Bonez 7. dec. 2020 kl. 17:10
Do I need to move the .dll into the Mods folder as well? It's not working, no matter what I do. I'm probably just an idiot, but I'm an idiot at his wit's end. lol. Everyone in the city is still a Sabrina, Scarlett, or Sterling...
Ilion  [ophavsmand] 25. juli 2019 kl. 13:21
As far as I know, there is no way to control or modify how the {0} pseudo-variable in the ROAD_NAME_PATTERN is populated. So, I think to get the result you want, you'd have to do as the Vienna namelist does ... which means that you'd gent multiple streets with the same name.
