With this mod, every bigger target has a defence bonus. It's a pain for fighting Snake Man or Chosen..

A must have for a fair experience. I mean, why the hell wasn't this in the game in the first place, i totally makes sense that hitting some above you would be harder than someone bellow you.

confirmed, this mod will conflict with EU aim roll even if the alternative mod launcher don't say so

@outis this is a late comment, but EU aim rolls now incorporates a high ground defense modifier.

Ahh... The Ben Kenobi reference, I get it. I don`t usually get mods that change game mechanics, but this is a good one for realism. Sun Tzu ( a REAL warfare expert) mentions the advantage of high ground all the time. Thankyou for this.

If using EU Aim Rolls, you can implement the same effect as this mod by editing this line in XcomAimRoll.ini in the EU Aim Roll mod folder

+HEIGHT_MODIFIER=(ZDiff=3, OffenseBonus=20, DefenseBonus=-10)

Change Defense Bonus from 0 to -10 or whatever you like.

Yeah, I'd imagine that another mod that changes Aim modifiers could overwrite this.

Doesn't work for me anymore. Might have something to do with EU Aim Rolls? It was working nicely but maybe an update broke the compatibility.

That's what this mod applies, but correctly, by editing the user settings in
XComGameCore.ini

[XComGame.X2TacticalGameRuleset]
UnitHeightDisadvantagePenalty=-10
; Amount of Aim lost when firing against a unit with height advantage

Not uncommenting the Game's DefaultGameCore.ini, where these dev comments exist.
The Default Config is intended to be the Vanilla core reference, and not usually edited.

Aiming angle setting for High cover, not in the mod.
XComGameCore.ini

MAX_ANGLE_PENALTY=80.0
SHOULD_ENABLE_PENALTY_ON_ANGLE_TO_EXTENDED_HIGH_COVER=false

One critisism I do have of the mod, is the Name, and Description.
High ground doesn't give "+10 Target's Defense".
It gives "-10 to Shooter's Aim".

Defense is a specific set stat, and not affected by this.
Aim is calculated for each shot, and is affected by this.

Fun fact: This feature actually exists in WotC's Game Core ini. It's just comented out. The line to look for is "UnitHeightDisadvantagePenalty". just remove the semicolon at the begining of the line to activate it.

Your description of a particular crash is familiar to me, I get that crash when I try to instal "Mod Everything". I don't encounter it with this mod, so it's on your end.

does that affect Archon when they fly with Blazing Pinions? because they are hard to hit vanilla, but if they have more defence, they can be a real pain ^^'

This mod makes my game crash when moving any unit;
I do have a shit-ton of other (minor) mods running and used a loaded save-game.
There's is a enormous variety of reasons the crash could incure, but it happens. So if you have other mods installed and plan on using a running campaign, this mod might make your game crash. Just a heads up :dante:
