Co-Emperor's will be appointed by AI and players alike and the position boosts the holders prestige and reduces some of the Emperor's stress if the person is qualified for the job. It also raises and lowers vassal opinion based on their aptitude.
The Co-Emperor will be able to sire Born in the Purple children. Be careful, revoking the Co-Emperor position is likely to make the former holder despise you and increases tyranny dramatically. More features will be added to this position in the future.

-Male Only Title Law added to starting Byzantine duchies in 867 and 1066.
