Puyosurf

Beskrivelse
Puyosurf combines the gameplay of Audiosurf 2 Pointman with the rules of Puyo Puyo. Scoop up blocks and activate powerups while making large chains and matches to earn a high score.

Puyo Puyo Features
  • Uses a 6x12 field size.
  • Match 4 or more blocks to clear them from the field.
  • Scoring based on Puyo Puyo Tsu.
  • See the chain count while a chain is happening.

Differences from Pointman
  • Maximum queue size is 6.
  • Multiplier powerup in corkscrew counts all blocks on the field as a single match, using the multiplier value as the chain value.
  • Dropping a block causes a minimum half second delay. This is done to check for chains.
  • Block positions are no longer randomized, replaying the same song will put the blocks in the same position.

Known Limitations
  • Hitting multiple blocks in quick succession drops them on the field, bypassing the half second wait time to check for chains.
  • Large Power Chains are scored higher than usual compared to the official Puyo Puyo games. This is because Audiosurf 2 checks matches by color and not per group.
  • Staying on a block line for too long will end the chaining state and not cause the blocks to match until leaving the line.

Puyo Puyo was initial released in 1991 by the developers Compile; SEGA's (and/or) Sonic Team's Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was initial released in 1993.

Mean Bean Machine is SEGA's localization of the original Puyo Puyo.

Did you mean: Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine?

Right, that's the intentional block hit delay kicking in so that the chain detection can activate and stop any collection of blocks so that the full chain animation can play out without any other blocks entering the board.

It should be possible to remove the delay, at the expense of the chain animation happening extremely quickly at roughly one second. Also, I still have a bug where releasing collected blocks quickly bypasses the delay.

This is the smartest idea ever, but the hit detection feels a bit off compared to normal gameplay.
