Introduction

After the original server of Test Drive Unlimited 2 shut down in 2019, it has been our goal to completely revive it and bring the community back to life! In this guide, we will guide you through the process of installing Test Drive Unlimited 2 in 2024, with support for the online services.

Installation & creating an online account

Installing Test Drive Unlimited 2:

Install a fresh licensed copy of Test Drive Unlimited 2.
Update your game to version DLC2 v034 by downloading this file[turboduck.net] and copying all files inside to your game directory.
Launch the game to ensure its working correctly.
Download & launch the TDUniverse Installer here[turboduck.net].
Follow the instructions given to you by the installer.
The game might ask for your game key. You can find this in your Steam library. Right click TDU2 in your Steam library and go to Manage > CD-Keys. Paste the game key in the game activation window.
Launch the game but do not create an account yet!*

* Don't be tempted to create a new account right away. You need to create an account on TDUniverse.org first so you can connect to the online services.

Creating an online TDUniverse account:

To play online, you will need to create & verify an account on TDUniverse.org
After having created your TDUniverse account, start the game and create a new online profile.
When at the creation screen, enter your TDUniverse account username and password instead of the TDU2 ones.
You now have created an online profile, happy racing!*

* Note that online play only becomes available after the completing the tutorial (after obtaining the caravan).

I'm so happy to be able to play TDU2 properly again.
Great work!
Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with the casino.
Winnings over 100,000 (from slot machines) are consistently not being paid out.

Hello @Hotrith, many thanks for helping me to still keep working on my backlog of games! I got through all the steps and opened up ports 3478, 8889, and 9000. However, using the TDU launcher as admin gives me "Server Status: Online with 0 Players" and "Connectivity: Closed". I can drive around and use the chat function, but cannot seem to find anyone online or do any of the online challenges. Any ideas? PC is Windows 10 64 bit, RTX 4070ti Super, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X.

Hey Rusher, that's weird. Does TDU2 have permission to write to Documents? That's the only thing I can imagine going wrong here. The servers don't have anything to do with the saving process.

Also an issue I'm seeing: half of the times I log out, I lose last stuff one on progress. For example, did the route to the B4 tournament, reached but couldnt race, so waited for autosave icon and exited after the fmv. After entering, I'm 8km away from the B4 tournament... this also happened at other places even after doing races on the first tournament, and I don't remember this happening on the original game. How to logout safe?

To confirm, I haven't had the issue since I disabled the RTX fix, so I recommend you guys not enabling it by default or asking in a popup or enabling if affected cards are detected, it's pointless to generate problems to people without the original issue lol.

On the other hand, I fixed an issue and now I think im online, connectivity shows online, and chat is enabled ingame, but still 0 players? is this really dead? I though there were people playing still, or its elsewhere on other servers?? I dont understand.

Hey Aquarious, I tried disabling the RTX fix and the problem doesn't seem to happen anymore, or at least I didnt have the bad luck to see it, will report if it does.

Anyway the game tells me Im online but says 0 players until I join, then it says 1 player, and the chat command doesnt work I guess because im alone...

cool the map crash is fixed but it still crashes 1 minute into driving

Hi Willster, the TDUniverse launcher includes a fix for the RTX crash. You can enable it in the settings menu in the launcher.
