Fix for Achievements Not Unlocking

On June 6th, 2017 this game was featured in the BTA tier of the Humble Sekai Project Bundle. Myself and several other players encountered an issue where even after completing the requirements for them none of the games achievements would unlock.

This guide will walk you through using the Steam Client Console to download an old version of the game (depot) in which the achievements can be unlocked. For those of you who use Astats this method is allowed.

EDIT: A patch for the game was published on July 26th that is supposed to resolve the issue with achievements not unlocking. As it was an earlier patch that broke them in the first place I'm leaving the guide up in case any future patches reintroduce the issue.

Downloading the Required Depot
  • If you haven't already done so install the game
  • Open the console in the steam client by visiting steam://nav/console in your browser
  • Navigate to the new Console screen in the Steam client and enter the following "download_depot 555640 555641 6414530263619895828" (without quotation marks)
  • Navigate to /Steam/steamapps/content/app_555640/depot_555641 and copy the content of the folder to the games installation directory (default /Steam/steamapps/common/Japanese School Life Trial) and choose to replace the original files when prompted
  • Run the game from your library as normal and you will now be able to unlock the achievements

Check the eidt at the start of the guide. The game has been updated since this was posted. I've only left the guide up in case future patches break something again. You should be able to obtain the achievements with the current version of the game.

I got the game in that bundle myself and posted the guide knowing there would be plenty of other new owners with the same issue. The bug was first reported on April 19th but there was no dev response till June 11th (around 17 hours after I published the guide).

Had it not been for the bundle the game likely wouldn't have been patched at all and there's a chance any future patch will reintroduce the issue. As such I've edited the guide to reflect the fact there has been an update but will leave the guide up in case anyone else has issues in the future.

well, achievements not worked for me when sekai project bundle was around, now they worked for me.

The default depot always worked - but only for some people.

The patch that supposedly fixed the achievements was published a little over a month after this guide.

the game was patched, dont know when but acheivements now working on the version installed originally by steam.

@lazee_dragon Just copy and past what the OP has described in the guide the pictures are just to show what to look for.

I got confused doing this as my games are installed on a separate drive to the Steam client. In my case the files were downloaded to the folder where Steam is installed not where the games are.

i am having trouble opening what u r showing on the left side (above images) and when i try to get to the other one (right side) mine looks differant than what you are showing. also the left side is way small and hard to read. i have never had to edit files in a game before in all my 20 yrs gaming. so this is really knew to me...so i need it for dummie (lol) ty :susanaflower:

I get an errror rwhen I open the game now stating "invalid character" and some japanese text :/

I took my profile off private , i purchased the game through humble bundle. If i dont have a license for it that is strange since i indeed paid for it and redeemed it on this account

As your profile is private I couldn't actually see whether you owned it so just had to go with what I knew. What you're describing is exactly what happens when you don't own a license for a game and I've experienced it myself on several occasions. Whilst installing a depot wrong could course startup errors it shouldn't cause this.
