In this guide I will show you how to get the Steam Community Overlay working in Quake 4.
How to?
To be able to use and take advantage of all functions of the Steam Community Overlay in Quake 4, you have to Run as administrator The Steam client! To do so, right click on the Steam shortcut on your desktop and then click Run as administrator (see the below screenshot for more info!).

The Result
Voilà! You can now enjoy, among others, taking screenshots, while playing Quake 4, using the Steam Overlay!

Also, for those who do this to get controller profiles working, also increase the in-game mouse smoothing to eliminate stutter when rotating using the right analog stick. Works smooth as butter for me now.

i tried both methods , and although overlay is now working i still cant take screenshots
the game sees the f12 button for screenshots yet it doenst do anything
