Mystery of Rivenhallows is a straightforward game that can be beat in around 30 minutes, but the puzzles and the clues for those puzzles can be confusing to follow. Though it seems half the puzzles in the game can be beat by random clicking if you don’t feel like following the sequence.

After the opening cutscene when you are outside the orphanage, the front door will be locked. The key is hidden nearby in the mailbox.

In the foyer, click on the painting of the boy in red for a clue. Continue on to the next floor. After the cutscene enter the bedroom on the right, and collect a knob from the middle shelf. Click on the colorful animals on the bedroom wall for a clue. Exit to the hallway.


Continue down the hallway to the table, and click on the drawer for a puzzle. You use the clue you just found in the first bedroom to solve the order of the lights: Yellow, Red, Blue, Green.


Inside the drawer click on the paper for another clue and grab the wooden piece. With this new clue we can solve a puzzle in the foyer, but first go into the janitor’s closet. Inside you will find a screwdriver and a wooden piece. You are done with the closet.

Go back to the foyer and use the clue to solve the bag combination puzzle. It is 35-52. Inside the bag you will find a third wooden piece and a classroom key. Now you want to enter the bathroom off the foyer, and enter the open stall. Use the screwdriver on the toilet tank to find a key. Exit the bathroom.


Go back upstairs and use the key on the second bedroom door. Use the knob on the floor cabinet, and look inside. You will find a wooden piece, a fish hook, and a pair of scissors. On the middle row of the bookshelf you will find a puzzle. For this one you arrange the pictures in order of events. Shovel, seeds, watering can, and tree. You will get a film reel.

Go to the first bedroom and move the middle pillow to find a sewn-together hole. Use your scissors to cut it open and receive a coin.

Exit the bedroom and go down the hallway twice until you are at the landing with four doors. From left to right they are the Classroom, Screening room, Play room, and Private. Use the classroom key on the first door. Click the blackboard for a clue. Go to the board filled with random numbers and letters and use all 4 wooden boards on it for a clue to the passcode to the nearby keypad. The code is 4670. Grab the picklock from the hidden cubby.


Leave and go down the stairs to find a cafeteria and backdoor. Click on the boy in blue painting for a clue. Use the lockpick to open the backdoor. Outside, click on the grate in front of the fountain. There is a key inside that you can reach with the fish hook. Back at the landing, use the key to open the Screening room. Inside the room click on the boy in green for a clue.


Go to the second bedroom and use the boys to solve the dollhouse puzzle: Blue closed, Green left closed, Red open. You will get a clue. Head back to the Screening room. Place the film reel on the projector and start it with the film clue: 0381. You will watch a short movie where you need to remember the sequence of objects/numbers for a puzzle.


Head to the Play room and use the coin on the bubblegum machine, take the fancy medallion.


Go to the classroom and click on the puzzle on the teacher’s desk. Place the medallion on the front plate to open it, and enter the sequence from the short movie to solve: House, 37, Knife, S.O.S. Grab the principal’s office key. Go to the office and look at the clocktower painting for a clue. Head back the hallway table and click on the clock for a puzzle. Set the time to 9:30 and grab the rare key.


In the backyard, use the rare key on the large truck’s side panel to open. Click on the back wall for a clue. Head to cafeteria door, and use the car license clue to open it: 739MF. Inside click on the plates to find a clue. Head to the kitchen in back and go the the fridge. Use the clue from the large truck to solve the puzzle and receive the golden medallion: Freezer, Super Freeze, Cooler, 3sec.

Head back to the office and use the medallion on the upper cabinet. Click on the book inside for a clue. Dial the phone number from the cafeteria. Get the small key. Use it to enter the Private room on the landing. Inside, enter the clue from the office on the keypad. You will find a secret lab. Grab the “crank” off the patient chair and head to the kitchen. Use the “crank” on the cupboard missing a handle and find a clue inside. Head back to the office.

At the radio on the desk, enter the clue from the kitchen: 180, 90, 225, 315. Get the button and head to the secret lab. Put the button back onto the medical monitor, power it on, and click the screen for a clue. Go to the first bedroom and click on the puzzle on the leftmost shelves. You need to arrange the colors in the right order in pairs. Use the clue to find that order: Blue, Red, Yellow, Green. You get a hammer.

Now head to the bathroom and click on the cracked tiles underneath the window. Use the hammer to break them open and find the last clue.
