Actually it does. The problem with guns is overheating. Mixing guns and Lighting (or other tehno-skills) is a great way to prevent the overheat on one side and the long delay before the skill charge up again.
I usually start with Lighting (because of the longer delay) shoot with guns just before overheat and usually at that point next Lighting is ready. This way my DPS is extremely high (almost no wait delays) and boss fights relatively easy. Let me illustrate that with my fight against Great Mantis (21 seconds):

Combat is definitely hard - in a grindy way, you need to go back and wait for you health to regenerate too often, too many enemies during battle smean you can't develop a valid strategy other than kill one, go back and heal, then come back for another one. Boring. Boss fights use too much RNG. In over ten fights against the mantis queen, only once I could almost kill her, the following time using the same moves and strategy killed me in half the time. I couldn't kill her and quit.
Maybe you guide will help me start again.
