So I was pretty sure that WOW! did not affect your spell damage, but I did some testing to make sure. I used WOW! (up to +5) on Ryudo who then casted Howl on Desert Divers. Since Desert Divers are weak to Wind, I figured if there was a difference in damage it would have been obvious. However, he did roughly the same damage before and after buffing, so I genuinely think WOW! doesn't affect spells. It does affect the damage of your Special Moves, though, so you can make use of that.
I had a hell of a hard time playing this game the first time. Like, no fun at all. not challenging, just ... I was the one being pissed on.
While some part of this guide don't really apply or I already knew, I find it a huge help in rebuilding my will to play. I will take the advice to heart and try again. Thanks man. Maybe this time I'll have fun.
I'm so glad that they decided to remaster the game and release it again...definitely worth the $10 to pick it up again.
Great guide, useful for anyone new to the Grandia series. Excellent work!
During my first playthrough, on Dreamcast, when I fought Melfice for the first time I died because I expected the battle with him to be as easy as the others had been up to that point.
Just beating him didn't satisfy me though so I farmed Seeds in the early areas prior to the battle with him. I dumped all those into Ryudo and went to fight Melfice again with the intention of only using Ryudo to attack him.
I had all other members of the party cast all the boosting spells on Ryudo and keep each other healed. Ryudo mainly used Tenseiken Slash and Dragon Zap on Melfice, focusing on eliminating the Regenerator first followed by the sword.
The fight was over very quickly and I became aware of just how easy it is to get ahead in the game.
Hopefully Hardmode will make things a little more interesting although I only really intend to play through on hard just to get the final achievement.
Yeah, each character has stats that they naturally excel in which helps you choose what role you want them to play. Since Mentality affects your healing spells, tossing your Men Seeds on Elena takes her from being a good healer to a godly healer. Whereas Millenia's Magic makes her the best offensive spellcaster in the group. Personally, I balance my Vitality Seeds to be given to the people who I notice end up taking the most hits or to Elena so she can keep everyone else healthy while tanking hits (having the party defend for one turn while she heals them is not a bad idea). Ryudo with a maxed ACT/STR/MOV with the item that lets your combo attack hit three times is SCARY good. That build was how I managed to get the acheivement for kicking Melfice's butt with only Ryudo.
