Introduction
This is basically the same idea as in my Gothic 1 "How to save time / go fast?". As the games are very similar in terms of an engine, a lot of this text was copy pasted, with slight adjustments to better fit to Gothic 2 solution.

As previously - shoutouts to noabody[noabody.wordpress.com], who came up with this idea in the first place.

Again, I do not take any responsibility if you screw up your safe file or character. Just so you know.
What to do?
Firstly, you'll need to activate "marvin mode", to gain access to console. So load your save file, open your character stats screen (default "B") and type in MARVIN, then close the screen. You should see a text in the left upper corner:

Now press F2 to open a console and type in:
hero export <your_character_name>
your character name - get it? Alright, just type in anything:
hero export sd

This will export your character to your save folder with a file name that you specified.
Now close the game, open your Steam Library, find a Gothic II: Gold Edition on a list, right click on it and choose Properties.

Go to Local Files tab and press Browse local files...

This will open an explorer window of your Gothic 2 install directory. Go to Saves folder and you should already see a character file you have exported from the game.
Go ahead and open it in a good text editor (Windows Notepad doesn't seem to break lines properly - I recommend Notepad++).

There is going to be a lot of weird stuff in there, basically describing your entire character. Find a line starting with: numOverlays=
There is going to be int=*NUMBER* right after it. The number will be equal to the amount of overlays specified right after it. Like this:
.png]
Increase that number by 1, so if it was 3 - increase it 4.
Then add additional line after the last overlay. It's going to be:
overlay=string:HUMANS_SPRINT.MDS
If you've done everything correctly, this section of a file should look something like this:
.png]
Save the changes and start the game. Load exactly the same save file as previously and enable test mode again.
Open a console and type in:
hero import <file_name>
And that's all - your character should now be sprinting when not holding a weapon.
Now what's left to do is to open character stats screen and disable test mode by typing in 42. Once you're sure everything is fine with your character - save the game and enjoy going fast!

But would it be permanent? If so - yes.

wouldn't it be much easier to just Marvin and spawn speed potions or items.

Live fast, die fast, no thank you, i rather enjoy this gem slowly, and relive the time when my dad wanted to institutionalise me, because i played it trought the night, when i was 15.

Insert the teleport runes when you start a new game. Problem solved.

Yeah, good idea, but unfortunately that way you can outrun any monster, this kind of breaks the game. Also you already have speed potions as Vito mentioned.

Sprinting already is a feature, you drink speed potions that let you sprint up to 5 minutes.

wish there was mod who add sprinting as new feature, not just cheating
