Everybody knows that: You have a non stolen item and suddenly it says, it's stolen. In this guide I will show you a simple trick to remove a stolen tag from any item.

This guide shows you how to remove the stolen-tag from every item in Skyrim.
This can be useful if your non-stolen items suddenly become marked as stolen, but you can also use this as a cheat to sell stolen items to normal people :P
Requirements
For this little trick you only need two things:

  • A follower/Huscarl
  • A stolen item
Execution of the trick
At first you go to Dragonsreach, that is located in Whiterun.

ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤㅤㅤ
ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
Arrived in Dragonsreach, go right into the room of Farengar Secret-Fire.

ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ
In his room, you have to go right again in the little room, where his bed is located.
In this room, you will find a dresser.
Place your item in it and order your follower/Huscarl to take everything out of this dresser.

Now you just have to take your item out of the inventory of your follower/Huscarl and the stolen-tag is removed.

I find any way to get rid of the Stolen Tag is worth it. Helps in the long run if one does not have a guild to take stolen items off the character in the beginning at least. I've tried this on different owned chests, items that are considered owned by an NPC & works the same so, tip is well good to know.

My method has been to sell the item to a fence and buy it back. This costs money but also the stolen tag is removed.

Good idea to remove the stolen tag then, I won't loose the item when arrested for minor crimes.

@Alpay It is a glitch/bug. In videogames cheats are seen as external ways to manipulate the game. While this is a glitch, a method to do stuff inside the internal bounds of the game without modifying any game content. It is your decision if you see this as a faulty way to play the game for yourself. It is more like bending the rules of the developers.

This basically works with any container that you yourself do not own and is outside the sight of an NPC. Personally I always use a dresser in the inn in Whiterun...

Even though I also wish for a new The Elder Scrolls Game to get released; a singleplayergame, not a MMORPG like TESO, these Bob comments are quite annoying.
