1. Unlocking the Faction
In order to play as Switzerland, you need to unlock the faction. Unlocking all factions requires editing the code to the game. I don't want to go into the detail here, because it is discussed in many places elsewhere, but you will need to modify your file to make Switzerland, Italy and the Golden Horde into playable factions. Also, they will only be playable in the last stage of MTW, and not for glorious achievement, only for conquest.
2. Playing the Faction
Switzerland is Landlocked. It's important to do several things at once. First, build up Switzerland. You will need to build as many troops as possible, preferably the elite swiss pikement and armoured swisspikemen. Next. train emissaries. Make allianances. Next, bribe coastal countries with rebels so you can build a navy. This is very important. It will be very slow at first. Eventually you need to set your sights on a non-christian enemy, such as Egypt or the Golden Horde. But initially you can bribe as many rebel coastal cities as you can. build navies and build trade. You can try and sack constantinople then build it back up. Big trade loot there.
Success
Finally, you have succeeded. You are the master of 60% of Europe after a long struggle. the Swiss have great advantages. Their Emperor and Princes are eight star generals. Their fabled pikemen are invincible in battle. They produce Chivalric Knights and Chivalric sargeants. And, once you have control of the seas, you might have a triumphant turn as I did, where I dispatched Aragon, Rome, France, the Papacy and Russia all in one single turn, thus destroying all of my enemies in one single turn utilizing strategic deployments via naval convoy once i had stablized civil order in the rear lines. The Swiss is one of the most challenging campaigns in MTw--and one of the most rewarding. Great good luck!

yes, it's just the way the game is set up. just be sure, if you attack a Muslim power, be aware they have the power of the "jihad" to recapture lost provinces.

Nice ! good tactic , should be easier to get muslim contries than other catholic countries. plus they have richer lands too! thank you so much :)

On top of that, once you break out into the Mediterranean, you can attack Muslim factions like the Almohads (who usually are at war with the Spanish and/or Portuguese) and the Egyptians (who usually are being crusaded against like mad) and pick up a province or two with coastal access. The northern ports like Norway that are rebel are very unstable--as is Scotland, you will need to garrison them heavily against rebellion. That means you're losing money on them.

Excellent question. Generally that boils down to money. In the early game, you can only build simple ships, but in the middle and late game you may be permitted to build Carracks and Galleons. If you're in the middle/late game and you are building Carracks/Galleons, you can jump 2-3 spaces with your ships (unlike galleys) so you can dominate more ocean from just a couple of Mediterranean ports than say, the galley powers like Byzantium. The bigger question then, is, what kind of ships are you building? And then, what kind of convoys will you run to capture that second or third port? Because convoys to capture rebel provinces are a powerful weapon.

is it better to have multiple port city at different area (North, Mediterranean, Scotlands, Portugal, islands near eygpt) or better to stick to one area/?
Artorius  [作者] 2020 年 3 月 4 日 上午 10:47
yes, there are tactical issues. Switzerland badly needs a port. The options are basically go South, and engage with the Mediterranean powers, or go North, through HRE, and engage with the Northern powers. In either event, you face potential excommunication for warring with Catholic powers, so potentially you can just set up a crusade at first to attack a non-Catholic power that is far away but has a coastal port, or a rebel province that has a coastal port.

So there is a middle path to finding a port before you start attacking fellow Catholics. But it may be (and here memory fails) that the crusade is not an option with Switzerland.

If so, then we go back to the initial scenario.

thank you for the guide. I'm actually tried a few ways. One of the is getting an exit from south, as the italians / frenchs doesnt have much defend there. However, it will bring alot of problem in the latter game.
Thanks for the guide, i think i should try your way
