Santisima Review
The Nuestra Señora de la Santísima Trinidad was ordered on 12th march 1768. The Santisima was designed by Irishman Matthew Mullan and was built in Havana, Cuba. The santisima launched in 1769. as built she was a 112 gun ship of the line which was increased to 130 in 1795-96 by closing in the spar deck between the quarterdeck and forecastle, around 1802 this was again increased to 140 guns creating the ship with the most guns of any other ship during the age of sail and one of the few ships of the line with effectively 4 gun decks.

In July 1779 Spain Declared war on Britain, Joining France in support of the American colonist, The Santisima became the flagship of the spanish fleet taking in part of Franco-Spanish Operations in the english channel in the late summer of the same year. In august 1780 she took part in the capture of 55 ships from a British convoy of 63 and in 1783 she was assigned to the Mediterranean squadron.

In 1797 the santisima was the flagship of Teniente General Jose De Cordoba y Ramos, who under the command of on 14th of February 1797 during the battle of Cape St Vincent she was badly damaged and nearly captured by the British fleet. She was first in action with the British 74 gunner the Captain commanded by Commodore Nelson(the same guy who was admiral at the battle of trafalgar) and the 74 Culloden. She was then attacked by the Blenheim, a 90 gunner, the Orion a 74, the Irresistible, another 74, and lastly the Excellent also a 74 gunner. By now she was severely damaged having lost all her mast and half her crew. She struck her colours but the british failed to take possession and the Infante don Pelayo(spanish 74 gunner) and the Principe de Asturias(112 gunner) came to her rescue. Several days after the action the santisima was spotted, still badly damaged, making her way back to spain and engaged by the 32 gun Frigate HMS Terpischore but the santisima escaped and eventually made her way to Cadiz for repairs.

Eight years later, commanded by Francisco Javier Uriarte and the flagship of Rear Admiral Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros, the santisima took part in the battle of Trafalgar on the 21st of october 1805 as part of the combined franco-spanish fleet. Due to her great bulk her helm was unresponsive in the light winds of the day which contributed to her ineffective service. Her great size and position immediately ahead of the fleet flagship Bucentaure(which we will be getting in NA at some point) made her a target for the British fleet and she came under concentrated attack by several ships, she lost her masts and eventually surrendered to the 98 gun Neptune captained by Thomas Fremantle. She was taken a tow by the 98 gun Prince but sank in a storm the day after the battle.

In Naval Action The Santisima is a 138 Gun 1st rate ship of the line(thus she only has 1 durability). The santisima can carry two 12pd cannons or 32pd carronades as bow chasers. For her stern chasers she carries four 68pd Carronades. For her broadside guns she can carry 34x 9pd cannons or42pd Carronades on her weather deck, on her top gun deck she can carry 36x 12pd cannons, on the middle gun deck the Santisima can carry 34x 24pd cannons and on her bottom gun deck she can carry 34x 42pd cannons. This makes the santisima the most heavily armed ship in the game, her broadside weight comes out as 1492pd vs 1296pd of the Victory. Even though the santisima has only 9pd on her weather deck vs the Victories 12pd she more than makes up for it with her larger cannons as can be seen by the broadside weight. In terms of structure the Santisima is worse of than the Victory, but not by much, at the time of writing the Victory has 100 more structure than the Santisima on the side, The Santisima having 11400 and the Victory having 11500(both for a teak ship with planking) this difference is insignificant for battle. The speed of the Santisima, at the time of writing, is surprisingly enough faster, the Santisima going 10.81 knots versus the Victory going 10.57 knots(both for teak with planking), of course both 1st rates are slow ships and even though the Santisima is faster than the Victory you should not expect her to be able to catch up with smaller ships like the Bellona, pavel or any other ship really. The Santisimas turn rate is not something to write home about, she is the worst turner of any ship of the line with a turn rate of 2.03, which is .11 worse than the Victory which has a turn rate of 2.14, do keep in mind though that both turn rate and speed is not important for most ships of the line.

The Santisima is the largest ship in Naval Action in terms of firepower, due to this there is at the moment no competitor in a line battle for the santisima, the santisima having similar structure to the Victory, speed and turn rate not mattering and the larger broadside weight of the santisima means that she is without a doubt the best ship for line battles.
