Adding Workshop Tags to your Mod
由 ∑3245 制作
A tutorial on how to add tags to your items that you've uploaded to the XCOM 2 workshop, created by E3245. Originally posted in r/xcom2mods.

3/8/19: Added a new method of adding tags that doesn't involve editing a text file all the time.

Preface: Rules For Tags
Before we begin, there are several things that you need to know before filling out tags.
  • You need a space after tags=, or else it won’t work.
  • Use lowercase characters ONLY, no uppercase, or special symbols.
  • Use commas to separate tags.

Below is the list of tags that you can use for the workshop. Case sensitive:
  • voice
  • soldier customization
  • soldier class
  • facility
  • voice
  • ui
  • item
  • weapon
  • map
  • alien
  • gameplay
  • war of the chosen
This is what it should look like:
tags= voice, soldier customization, soldier class, facility, voice, ui, item, weapon, map, alien, gameplay

Please use appropriate tags! DO NOT USE TAGS THAT DO NOT MATCH THE MOD THAT YOU’VE CREATED!
Method 1: Add Tags by Editing Your Mod's .XCOMMod
This is copied directly from my voicepack tutorial[docs.google.com].
  1. Go to XCOM 2 SDK/XCOMGame/Mods/YourMod and open YourMod.XCOMMod with Notepad, or any text editor.
  2. Go down until you see tags=
  3. Fill it out with the appropriate tags so that other people can find it.
  4. Save the text document, and publish your mod. You should see now that you have tags, so other people can find your mod.

Thanks to Future Null Infinity for helping me figure this out!
Method 2: Add Your Tag to the Description of Your Mod
Apparently there's a bug in Modbuddy for both Vanilla and WotC versions that allows you to put tags in the description of the mod. This is a lazier way to add tags to your mods without having to save to a text file or remembering what tags you've added.

The best part is, you don't have to worry about if the tags will disappear when you compile the mod again. Just follow this one weird trick!

To do this trick, you just have to open the properties of the project, or if you got the pop up box asking for the mod name and the description to the mod, add the following:
tags= <wtag1>, <wtag2>, ... , <wtagN>
where <wtagN> is the name of the workshop tag that you want!

Example:
tags= voice, war of the chosen, some other tags

If done right, it should look like this:

Once you save your project, and then compile, the tags should stick forever.

IMPORTANT
Although you can set tags via this method, your tags won't work with the default filters on the right side of the Steam Workshop. That's why so many mods - even the mods of the creator of this guide - have lowercase tags that don't properly work.
You'll only get it to work if you use the alternate workshop uploader, which is a far better option.

To the guy saying don't put WOTC into your mod name:
Please do put WOTC into your mod name (if it runs on WOTC), every WOTC mod up until this point has done that and there's no reason to change

One Steam tag should be sufficient!

War of the Chosen

NOT war of the chosen!
NOT WotC!

I don't know how to go to XCOM 2 SDK/XCOMGame/Mods/YourMod. Do you expect everybody to know this stuff?

This guide was super helpful. I found out that people couldn't find my voice packs (which your VP guide was also super helpful btw) in WOTC tags. It's been 8 months since I started doing this. None of the 3 have been found through tags. This will fix that, thank you.

Added war of the chosen tag

as a side note: The bonus to getting tags enabled is you suddenly find putting an image in the upper right (above tags) to be ludicrously easy now. (it's not user friendly, but it works with tags)
