How To Prevent Crash In Level: Say Hello To My Little Friend

In the level, "Say Hello To My Little Friend", when you go to the lab to blow it up, there is a chance that it will crash. Here's how to prevent the crash (This was used on Windows 10).

Step 1: Setup
There are three different rendering engines that the game uses (these basically work the shaders, GUI, and other game graphics), Direct3D, OpenGL, and 3Dfx Glide (this one doesn't work all the time, better graphics cards don't support this plugin). By default, the game uses Direct3D. This plugin works for performance, but it causes the game to crash sometimes when blowing up the lab in "Say Hello To My Little Friend". That is why you must change it to OpenGL. This plugin is more stable but it is slower. It will generally prevent the crash.

So this happened to me twice and i got pissed so bad. But i know what causes it. You have to stay stil when you detonate the bomb, and also you cant detonate it guick. 47 has to first eguip it and the you can detonate it. This worked for me at least.

It's a particularly busted mission. Also, side note, this was made a long time ago, so my uh... understanding of computers has gotten WAAAAAY better over time. That said, you also don't even need to initiate shooting on this map, I never understood why everyone feels like the Columbia missions all REQUIRE you to go in guns blazing.

Had to turn on cheats for this mission. I also crashed going down ladders

The wiki says: "There is a bug where the game crashes upon detonating the bomb WHILE RUNNING".

Not sure about it, but try to detonate the bomb while standing still, it may be worth trying.

OpenGL for some reason is the most compatible version of it.

update: i've uncheckd Texture Compilation and detonated the C4 inside one of those barracks tents, the cutscene worked and i finally passed mission XD - Also chosed OpenGL (btw, im on Win7)

thanks. the issue in the guide doesn't really apply to me since i'm not crashing. however, you have given me great insight on the whole open gl rending issue and it was a nice discussion.

Hitman: Codename 47 doesn't natively support 16:9 resolutions, and crashes on anything that isn't 4:3 if it's in fullscreen. Widescreen is supported IF you do windowed mode, BUT, then Hitman: Codename 47 has a weird bug where the FOV is significantly lower in true widescreen. So for example, 1024x768 stretched to 1366x768 has standard FOV, but 1366x768 naturally has a smaller viewport in-game. I honestly wouldn't recommend it because it cuts off the top and bottom of the view in the game's camera rather than adding to the sides like most modern games do.
