Here will be a basic guide on how to not only to have your planetary colony survive, but indeed thrive! I have been playing for many moons, before this was even on steam! and I would like to share some of my expertise to the neophytes of this game! and even some veterans who may have just not known something!
The goal is to make this guide useful for everyone, giving a full game guide- not just surviving...but thriving!

Be sure to press that Thumbs up!
Lets science the ♥♥♥♥ out of this!

First Launch- What to bring!
On the first launch, don't think of supplies
I must be crazy right?

No actually you should get 1 Methane Extracter, 2 Rovers, 400kg of Food, and 40 Water

Reasoning- Methane extractor is so you may get rid of those landers- 2 Rovers so you may maximize covering distance if you are not familier with the map, Food so you start well fed, and water to get you to the 7000kg mark

BLASTOFF!
Choosing a landing site

Woah! This looks rocky, we can obviously deal with that later however we do see a nice, open area up top! but wait! dont place your first lander there!

Reason- Thats where "said" colony will go- its in the way, and because this is not a SUPPLY MISSION there is no point in filling up perfectly good space with a lander with no supplies!

So place your FIRST lander in an area where it fits, but wont effect you later on!
Exploring Time!

Once you have placed your lander, click on it, then click on the Methane Extracter
The Methane Extracter does exactly what it's name is... Extracts Methane from the ground in order to Launch your lander with ease! Im not sure exactly how long it takes to "charge" but id say approx. 150 sols

Next you have your Rovers...
Rovers are one of the most important beginning tools as they tell you where all the ores, methane, and water is! (with hardwork of course) So once you have your lander on the ground, deploy the rover(s) *if needed- Click on the rovers- look on your Hub and it should say Explore-

Next hit Route, then draw away your guideline, you direct the rover to search for those precious recources!
These guys hate increased solar activity so good luck having them survive!
Disasters!
Throughout your game, You will experience a disaster.
There are a couple of disasters. Meteor showers, Increased Solar Activity,Dust storms, and more
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meteor showers will wreck havoc upon your colony as any impact will destroy a building without armor

Dust storms, will "fog" your entire map (still be able to see) however things such as your Oxygen generator, recycling station and solar panels will need repairing during, or after.

Increased Solar Activity, will disable any electronics such as your rovers, and forklifts. Your colonists wont be affected by this though.

Methane Boil off, During a time of distress through your colony- one of the "sign of the times" are your methane boiling off! meaning you lose a signifigant amount of Methane

Water Recycling Center has Ruptered, again, another warning of "the sign of the times" once a recylcing center is built, this MAY occur, Simply to fix- repair it with either an astronaut with supply crate in arms or a forklift with supplies

Radar Offline- Simply fix by the same repairing method- use an Astronaut or a Forklift while either one is holding a supply crate- then click on the Radar to fix (takes time for walking distance)!

Now, if you scared dont be worried. there is a solution. it called prevention! Disasters can only occur when A.) you dont have enough colonists to support your colony. and B.) By circuit dificits (Going negative in power supply)

So keep your eye out when your running low!

So to avoid disasters, make sure you do not overbuild (build too much, with too little colonists) or over build by going negative in your power supply!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second Launch- What to bring!
For the Second Launch grab yourself
A Forklift
And 240L of Water
Third Launch, and Beyond- What to Bring!
For your third launch dedicate all your weight towards
A Methane Extractor
14 Supply Crates...

And do this for the next 3 missions... You will have plenty of supply to get you started however on the Third Mission, Grab an Astronaut, Enough water to cap you at 400L (whatever is needed), And the rest dedicate towards Supply crates(You should be left with about 8)
When to get Colonists
Once you send at least 3 Supply Missions(Methane Extracter, and 14 Supply Crates) You will now need your first Astronaut!

I only suggest a total of 2 Astronauts...
Allow me to explain- Astronauts require double the food of that a Colonist, so to keep population and resources in a safer equalibreum- stick to 1 Astronaut, no more than 2- Consider the Forklift an astronaut as it performs the same functions *repairing, assistant building- but simply cannot lay down a plan. A single Astronaut will keep YOU busy, Idle Astronauts are only good at one thing... Stealing those resources!

What to Build First!
If you want to get a great base, you need to start with the basics.
Greenhouse
Hallways (Includes 4 way)
Water Reclaimer
Methane Reclaimer
Power (Solar Panels, Geothermal Plants, and Nuclear Reactors)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steps *Note your Forklift is your friend, have it carry your supplies!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.) Get Power-
Build Solar Panels!... I suggest 3 off the bat, you can limit and do 2- ITS YOUR COLONY
Solar panels power your colony, however they require maintence *repairing if they get dust on them- If your population becomes too low, DUST STORM BABY, and say bye to power... Now if you have food and water your ok, they live off it. But once that storm passes, you have quite some repairs to make! Later on you can build Geothermal Plants(recommended) as they provide +20 power instead of +6 power(solar panel)- You can also build Nuclear Reactors which provides 80 power however are quite a hazard (I wouldnt recomend building this) But if you are a daredevil you need to connect it to a hallway, and make sure there is water or else goodbye base!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.)Water
If you followed my advice, you should have enough food and water to last your guy/gal 200 sols
You dont want to keep sending water up so- GET WATER
By now you should know where you water sources are so, have your Astronaut pick up a crate, and get him building the water reclaimer!

Once Built, water should be no problem, at least for now :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.) Methane
You should have found that sweet old Meth by now, so you need to harness it. Just like water, you build a reclaimer on it. It can hold up to *I believe 1000L of Methane
You NEED methane early on and later on
Methane fuels your rockets, and powers your mine(yes there is a iron mine)!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4.) Building
It is your colony, you design however the essentails are Air, Greenhouses, and Habitats, and a Launching pad
Greenhouses- Grows crops indoors
Air- Gives your colonists the glorious ability to breath!
Habitats- a cozier room besides the landers(Tip- Each lander gives 2 beds, so do NOT get rid of them unless they are in the way)!
Launching Pad- Instead of a measly 1000kg carry weight, lets get a 2000kg carry weight! I suggest building this as early as possible as it enables large supply missions(20 crates) and even the ability to send Colonists then!

So, You design. Keep in mind you need to build future buildings so make sure you build, compact, small and dont close off your air claimers, build freaking Airlocks so you can repair them...

As well as Sciency buildings but well get to that :D
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Europa Moon
Methane Strategy
Ok, Its really simple, I bet most of you are already doing it
HOWEVER- in the beginning I suggested building a Launchpad- In doing this you will need 1600L of Methane and 400L of Water... Just build as many Methane Tanks as possible, and however many water tanks you would like, and your good

BUT TO MAKE SURE YOU DONT RUN OUT BY THE NEXT LAUNCH DATE (Hence STRATEGY), wait until all the tanks are filled up, depending on when you build the tanks, You most likely will have to wait on a large Supply mission...

Pros- Always have large rocket available as long as all reclaimers are running nomily
Con- You prolong a large supply mission

This is just a trick I learned a while ago, simply timing everything perfectly- because when your methane tanks refuel, you get another launch- Meaning you can always have a large rocket launch (unless your Methane boils off)

RMV's!
RMV'S are basically, interplanetary Bulldozers...

Annoying rock blocking your building path? For a small loan of 1,000kg Get yourself this amazing vehicle!
Astronauts dont have to ride inside of it in order for it to work... Its an unmaned vehicle!
Just select, hit Bulldoze, and guide its path towards the rock, and continue guiding it until it is in your desired spot (Geology lab, or some trench :D )-

Once you are able to get the RMV- I would suggest getting it! However make sure you have enought supply crates, food, and water. Its not worth the death of your colony

RMV's are extremely useful though

The Sciences!
The confusing, fun thing about this game!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lets start with Geology labs...
Once a lab is built you recieve the opportunity to build the Geothermal Plants! *build this one before your Bottony Lab

However, they serve more a purpose...
Like upgrading hallway armor!
Once you get a Sattelite online,Build a Radar, then get 600kg of iron ore- you will be given the oportunity to upgrade your hall armor (which is useful againts Dust Devils, and Meteorite Showers

Very useful thing to do LATER ON- consider it as "insurance"

And now, upgrading your Refinarys! Gotta get more of that good ol' Ore!
Simply follow the mission steps! push 3 nearby rocks into the lab- and wait...
a benefit to this is you gain 100kg of iron ore per rock! very useful as it helps you continue your hallway armor upgrade!

*THATS THE IRON MINE BABY!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now your Bottony Labs!

These serve the purpose of gaining you Farms! But you already have farms right?
Not like these...

You have Greenhouses, they only give you 2kg of food a sol *NOTHING
with farms, if bred correctly can gain you up to 5kg a Sol!
Now in order to cross plant genetics, you need to use the Miner and collect as much Clay and Gypsium as possible! Then take it to your refinary
Then you go into the lab, select your desired traits and YOU DOMINATE THAT PLANET'S SOIL WITH YOUR PLANTS!

once your done with the uh... dominating you can take away your greenhouses and build habitats OR- Build Refridgerators! You may recall in an earlier photo of the Europa base the Fridges! They increase Food storage capacity by a whopping 400kg's!! The catch is, no more growing... I 100% suggest if you havent done yet, make sure you dont go into "food debt" though, you will instantly freak out once you realize! Building more Fridges means more storage. More storage equals longer your colonists survive disasters, and increases your ability to have more colonists
Radars
Ahh yes, Radar!
I can predict when im about to be screwed over?
WHY YES YOU CAN! The benefit is, you will have "time" to close off airways and prevent even more deaths in event of a meteorite shower... and they enable to upgrade of hall armor!

The Rockets
You should by now notice, you get different rockets throughout your game.

Tier 1 Rocket- Which Enables you to get 1000kg worth of Supply, also the first Rocket you get!
Simple enough but this limits you on what you can get!

Tier 2 Rocket is the Large Supply Rocket. - It gives you the option of holding 2000kg of your supply, however this now wont limit you on what you can get! You can resupply everything except a Sattelite...

Tier 3 Rocket is the Sattelite Rocket, offered after a certain number of sols you gain the ability to build Radar, in doing this you will need this sattelite, in order to predict disasters

Tier 4 Rocket holds Colonists, and that only. This Rocket is given after the Martain City Challenge is awarded to you! This enables you to gain 36 colonists to your colony- Good if you just suffered from a disaster *in my cases
End Game
As time progesses, and you start doing really freakin good- You just may be at end game...

So the whole objective of a colony is to become Independant- Goodbye Earth! you didnt put a ring on it.
You will need a BUNCH of supplies, so get that tier 2 rocket from the landing pad to get you your 20 supply crates ASAP and write down(if you would like) what you need to BUILD for end game
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will need to build-
-A Terraforming Project Helps you unlock Memnonia

-3D printers- use iron to build supply crates! *repairing, and building

-Iron Mines* to produce iron easily with the cost of methane

-A BUNCH of Methane Extracters(As many as your map will enable you to have)

-Habitats- Youll see in a second :)

-Wait for the Monument... Once built it'll just sit there but if you are to declare independance early- You just done screwed up...

Once those are built, you can declare independance but once you do, your colonists get really horny and they start repopulating. Every 50 sols a baby is born so Habitats are important

Now you dont need to rush getting habitats or farms- take your time- you have 50 sols before you start losing food or water.

I personally consider a population of about 100 an accomplishment... It shows you have the ability to maintain a huge colony and grants you a challenge!
Thank you!
Thank you guys who stayed to read, and learn!
Please comment below on your thoughts, opinions of my opinions, and any questions you may have... Im kinda a pro at this game

Please tell me if I forgot anything important,or wrong, Im sure I did.

Keep colonizing, and have a laugh :)

My Review of Sol 0 * Not a guide
I like challenges, most of you reading are probably new, but will realize that this game is too easy later on. Now you can make it to 50 years in game if you would like, however there is no fun in doing? at least that I would imagine. I feel as if there are no real long term challenges besides the "martain city" one. I find the logic in this game to be odd as well. Forklifts run forever? Martian dust on Europa during storms? I think that for the Developer maps there should be different aspects to it. now all the missions on mars, most likely would stay the same. But on different planets, moons there are different things that set you back. making them either enjoyable, or dreaded by someone. But if they are dreaded by it, then it makes it a challenge to worth while to complete.

You may argue differently but, if you are a regular player im sure you would agree that the game has the same principles. I just think it could add an enjoyment factor to have diversity between everything. What are your guys opinions? comment below!

One problem I'm having is I run out of materials to mine. Like clay and gypsum, how do you get more, once you've mined it all? Is that just it you're done and you die eventually?

Also, I have TONS more oxygen than I need, but a bunch of my stuff has very low oxygen. Is there a trick to it?

Incredibly helpful. Me being the derp that I am, I never thought of sending multiple supply rockets BEFORE sending astronaughts. I always sent an astronaught + water/food + methane extractor + whatever supplies fit in the second launch (first being the rover + extractor + food preset)

Thank you for the guide! :D

I wanted to see how to make the best genetics formula for each planet, but right now the starter.
I think im going to go make a guide for that.

@richw-50
Sure it will clutter up your area! But thats why I said to place your landers in areas where they wont affect you later on. Plus- if your building you have the methance extractor to "blast away" so it wouldnt even matter
richw-50 2016 年 2 月 2 日 下午 2:26
If you dont send an astronaut some time in the 1st 3 launches tiull clutter your area with landers full of supplies. You cannot build pallets to offload supplies and you cant build enough facilities to empty fast enough.
