Another option if you have trouble with the optional features (sometimes list doesn't load) - open powershell as admin (can be the regular console or the ISE, doesn't really matter), and run this:

Get-WindowsOptionalFeature - online -FeatureName "DirectPlay" | Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -online -all

If the above doesn't work, you can install optional features via command prompt using DISM - but you'll need to google the exact command.

That's actually bad method. Disabling Direct 3D will cause cutscene to freeze at some point in the game.

Just use DegeVoodo and Windower and it'll run smooth, you can even bump it to 60 fps that way.

Since when does ffxi install directplay?(Long time player back when it first launched) also, win10 laptop with steam set to admin, no issue, so... anyone find a cause for this, I'm legit curious since I didn't encounter it...
