As for the hound, I've basically kept the hound around because I like how it distracts the enemies. Sometimes I'll let the hound go deal with a group while I loot the room. Not a great build idea, but a convenient quality of life thing. I'll be getting rid of it soon... but I can't bring myself to put the ol' pup down just yet.
I keep wishing there was some way to tell what damage is happening from what source, especially when I die or when something suddenly happens that I'm not expecting. Some visual cues exist, but too much is going on too fast to really figure it out.
