General Gameplay Tips

A few game quirks to know in advance. Hopefully, this will save you some frustration:

Hold JUMP to keep C.V. in mid-air for a little longer, and let go of the JUMP key to make him fall faster. Also, make a small, short jump by giving the JUMP key a small tap. Precisely controlling how C.V. jumps and lands is the first part of pulling off precise moves.
Hold SLIDE while in mid-air to begin sliding the instant you touch the ground. There'll be a lot of areas where you have to jump over an obstacle, and then have to immediately slide under another.
You can also continue a SLIDE right off a ledge, or down a flight of stairs, if you keep your SLIDE key held. Handy for ducking certain low-hanging obstacles.
Let go of the SLIDE key and immediately re-press it to snag a gold bar stuck between two low-hanging obstacles. For instance, between two spiders in a Bonus Challenge.
You can hold the SPRING key to bounce off it the instant you touch it, but don't. Instead, SPRING from the exact middle of a pad; there's some gold bars that you can only collect when you make a perfect arc through the air.
The KICK move lasts less than half a second, and can't exactly be spammed. Like everything else, it requires precise timing.
You can KICK while jumping or falling at any time.
In the levels that have Beats to reflect, you can hold the BLOCK bar in front of you indefinitely (except when you SLIDE).
JUMP over bouncing RED blocks; SLIDE under bouncing PURPLE blocks.

Achievements

The not-so-obvious achieves, and how to get them:

AMNESIA.MAKES YOU AFRAID

During a Bonus Challenge, run right into a monster spider.

BURGER.MOUTH

Let C.V. get bonked right in the mouth, right in front of a BURGER MOUTH billboard.

ENDURE

Complete an entire Zone (Impetus, Tenacity, or Triumph), from the first level to the Boss, without quiting the game or exiting back to the main menu. To minimize rage, switch to EASY Difficulty and swing through Impetus.

EVERYONE.PLAYED BRAID

Deliberately run into an obstacle after missing a Gold Bar. If you're playing on PERFECT Difficulty, you'll automatically get bonked when you miss a Gold Bar, which also hands you this achieve.

GONE.FISHIN

You should get this achievement if, as per the thumbnail, C.V. and a giant fish jump into the air at exactly the same time. Can be done on any Difficulty, and as early as level 2-1.

MISSTEP

Miss the SPRING right at the end of 3-BOSS: The Source, and fall comically to your doom. Derp.

PERFECT.PIECE

You actually need a Double-PERFECT: A PERFECT on any level, plus a PERFECT on the Bonus Challenge that follows. Only obtainable on NORMAL or PERFECT Difficulty.

TIMBLETAUNT

Once you've defeated the final boss, patiently sit through the "ending" cutscene, the credits, and the not-so-secret epilogue cutscene all the way through; no skipping!

Since the guide doesn't say (maybe I should write my own):

Difficulty level doesn't actually change the courses. Instead:
EASY: there are no gold bars to collect, so you don't have to do certain routes, jumps, or springs perfectly. No Bonus Challenges.
NORMAL: Normal.
PERFECT: Now, missing any gold bar will also force you to restart.

BONUS.GET, ROASTIN.MARSHMALLOWS, and AMNESIA.MAKES YOU AFRAID are in the Bonus Challenges when you collect all gold bars in a regular level.

The earliest you can get AMNESIA.MAKES YOU AFRAID is the bonus for 1-4 Crater Raider.
The BURGER.MOUTH achievement is possible in the final boss.

The following achievements are given in a regular playthrough (any difficulty, any mistakes):
LONGEST.JOURNEY (complete 1-11 Odyssey)
IMPETUS.COMPLETE
TENACITY.COMPLETE
PLAYING.TRINE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND (complete 3-7 Gall Blaster)
THE.GAUNTLET (complete 3-9 The Gauntlet)
DEJA.VU
TRIUMPH.COMPLETE

I got GONE.FISHIN, but I didn't actually get a notification for it, at least not that I noticed. Maybe that's happened for someone else.

ok i found it, i didnt really think the game would make the last boss a unique level lol
do the perfect achievements require both perfects or can u get away with just all the bars in the regular level? i dont feel like grinding any bonus levels ill only see 1% of the time

where are the burger mouth billboards. i dont remember ever seeing one and im at 3-11

@Bobfranklinhippyflower I triggered that by accident, but the only thing I can state for sure is you don't need to finish the level for it to register--I did it in my very first 2-1 run and quit before reaching the end of it. Good luck!

Great guide, thank you! The Gone.Fishin one doesn't seem to be working though. Maybe the timing is just incredibly specific or I need to finish the level before it unlocks? I've tried jumping while it started jumping, tried jumping while it was in mid jump and variations in between and nothing. Not sure if you can help

Just for the people asking: for the PERFECT achievements, you need to do a perfect at everything: challenges and bonus stages.

@Tryhard: On Perfect difficulty, the game will fail you right away if you miss a gold bar. In the main levels this means starting over, but in the bonus levels, this means just a fail state and going to the next level.

I'm in the weeds here, but if you look at the Steam achievement % stats, the RUNNING.HARD achievement has a 1.3% completion rate, whereas the other perfect achievements are all at 1.2%. I think we can reasonably conclude that the RUNNING.HARD achievement can be obtained by just completing the main levels, since finishing the bonus levels as well would net you every achievement in the game, which would put this achievement at the same rarity as the others.

Does that make sense or is my head up my ass?

Now what about MASTER.RUNNER? Can you play it on any difficulty? Is it for completion or all gold bars? This shit really isn't clear, but fortunately, I don't care enough to try.

@TheColorUrple: The way it's worded, it sounds like you need to make it to the end of each Bonus Challenge level. Not sure if you need to collect every single Gold Bar there too; probably not.

Hi, thanks for the guide! Definitely some good stuff in there.

I have an additional question that I was hoping you could address.

RUNNING.HARD - To "beat" all challenges on Perfect difficulty, does this mean you have to successfully complete each bonus round, or can you just finish the main levels?
