Dark Cloud Forest Prop Pack

A prop pack based on the forest areas from the game Dark Cloud.


I made these props ages ago to help fill out the forest scenes in my Dark Cloud item set for the TF2 workshop. The forest props were mainly for the Scout's promo items, the poncho and the head wrap. The idea was to emulate the iconic forest areas from the aforementioned game.

Ok, maybe iconic is the wrong world. Upon looking over the source material, I found the original forest zones from Dark Cloud were somewhat poorly constructed. I ended up drawing some inspiration from Dark Cloud 2 and similar PS2 games, and ended up taking a bit of a new direction with the art style. As long as it captured that dense forest cartoony motif, that's all that really mattered(it's just a promo for a tf2 hat and misc item afterall, no need to overkill it).

For level designers, I've compiled everything using $staticprop(well, everything that doesn't have bones), and I've kept these props very lean.

prp_forest_bush.mdl
-A large leafy bush, used to fill out the background of a forest scene.

prp_forest_rock.mdl
-A large boulder, made up of smaller rocks.

prp_forest_tree.mdl
-A large forest tree.
-Useful for "below the forest canopy" shots.

prp_forest_grass(_low).mdl
-A simple tuft of knee-high grass.
-LOD support, collapses to a 2 triangle quad at a distance to conserve memory.
-"_low" version is simply a placeable version of the lowest LOD.

prp_treasure_chest.mdl
-A scuffed up treasure chest, roughly based on the treasure chest from Dark Cloud.
-Contains a hinge bone, for opening/closing the chest.

prp_torch.mdl
-A simple wooden torch, used to light a dungeon hallway.
-An extra prop salvaged from a scrapped scene I was working on.

prp_red_berry.mdl
-A large, hand-sized, red berry, based on the inventory item of the same name from Dark Cloud.

prp_chestnut.mdl
-A large, hand-sized, chestnut, based on the inventory item of the same name from Dark Cloud.



The props featured in this pack are based on objects from the game "Dark Cloud"/"Dark Chronicle", and are the intellectual property of "Sony Computer Entertainment".
