Things you absolutely need to know how todo is dodge/burn, layers, and selections.
Selections are great because you can select pixels on your camo layer and then select your background layer and copy-paste. Also an easy way to make like 50 different types of camo.
If you get reaaaally lucky, you may only need your camo layer lol.
My layer setup usually is something like this.
4. Some highlights. Good source material is usually found in the bump map colour channels or the specular map. (layer type is something like screen)
3. The same as layer 1 but brighter usually. (multiply layer type @ reduced opacity)
2. Camo (overlay layer type)
1. Original converted to black and white. Erase anything thats not camo'd (normal layer type)
0. Original (background layer.)
What that does it keeps all the original detail. All the little scratches etc. Its just camo'd too. You generally will have to play around with brightness/contrast and opacity on some of those layers to get it looking how you want.
