How To Recruit
1: Sell 2000 gold worth of items in one session with the orb/merchant thing. This requires ~35 items from Pagota or forward. I recommend getting far more than you think you need.
2: When you reach the Jail, you can hop out of bed with multiple clicks. Click enough (10 times) to unlock Robber.
3: Unlock Wraith by defeating one in the Vaults with a Fireball.
4: In the Pagota, from the ship view, there's a half-invisible Ninja in the background. If you move the background a little (click and drag anywhere) he might stand out better since he's closer than the background but further than the ship. Click on him and he'll join. (See pic below)
5: In the Mage Tower, eat a food item while 'fighting' a Geltower (white cube thing) to recruit one.
6: In the Gallery, watch for a painting of a Black dragon, and click it.
7: When your 'library' is sufficiently full (typically after your first run in the Gallery), visit Woodward to unlock the Catapult. You don't need a 100% full library, but if it doesn't unlock after your first Gallery run, you may need to re-run some of the earlier areas.

Did you miss one? If you complete the game (get the East Wind and sail), you can then re-run any zone of your choosing.

The whole reason I'm at this guide isbthat I accidentally unlocked wraith and was confused. I don't remember hitting him with a fireball, but my staff occasionally ignites enemies. Does that count?

For wraith, upgrade your fireball then as soon as you see one shoot two fireballs immediately. After they hit, he should have very little health and it will burn down. You must kill with burn (not hit) and only use spells (fireball). Took a lot of tries to get this and a lot of farming fireballs.

Confirming what others said re: Wraith. You need to fully kill the enemy with spells... not just get the last hit.

Also the order in this guide is slightly off. Vaults is after Pagota.

Ninja didn't appear at first, but after doing a run in the area he appeared.

I think you cant get ninja if you complete the game but didnt progress to the "next" run/restart

Just got the wraith unlock and what worked for me was killing him with two fireball scrolls and nothing else.

I just met ninja in Vault (next level after Pagota), it was half-transparent at same spot as above screenshot (a little bit to the right from ship).

Well, jusy got wraith. I upgraded fireball to maximum and got 2 enemies in row: First one was a wood and wraith standed after him. Fireball penetrated both of them, killed wraith and I got him.

Alright here's the deal with the Wraith. I can 100% confirm this the way to do it from getting him on multiple playthroughs and lots of trial and error. He has to be killed with only spells. Which means if he takes sword or magic damage from accidental cascade matches when the spell is removed from the board, it won't count. When you get the "Secret Collect" screen he also compliments you on your mastery of spells as well.
