I've had it occur a few times now and it only seems to happen whenever I revert to the editor. I've experienced it in the VAB as well.

Nah, I just think the game stores random models that count as parts in the regular part files, just hidden. When loading up the SPC for instance, you can see things like kerbals in the parts list for a brief frame if you are lucky. It just looks like something went so wrong there that.. well, the hidden parts decided to stick around and have a little party.

Basically, I reverted a flight I was in to the Spaceplane Hangar. When it loaded up, there were no categories for the different parts, it was just one big category with all the parts in it. When I saw that I could place Kerbals AND asteroids, I knew something was wrong. Probably just one of my mods causing it.
