No-Spoilers Homesick Player's Guide

I suggest that you not read this guide. Heavy walkthrough use will ruin this game. But some people may get genuinely stumped, so I thought it might be best to offer help as gently as possible. I have intentionally written this guide to be so vague that it's impossible to use except as a gentle nudge past real obstacles you have already discovered for yourself.

The guide is divided into six parts corresponding to major areas in the game. Below the headings comes a series of "spoiler" lines, arranged in order of necessity. I suggest reading them in order and returning to the game as soon as you hit a line you didn't already figure out for yourself.

Did you find anything on the floor of your room?

Are you locked in? How might you handle that in real life?

Were there any locked doors in the hallway?

Did you find any keys that might help?

Were they stuck? Persistence pays.

Did the keys help you find anything?

What would that thing sensibly hold? Have you seen any? If not, where might you look for some?

What might want some?

You're holding something else that might inspire you.

Are you making any noises?

Can you see where you're going? If not, maybe you could plan ahead for that. How would you handle this problem at home?

The sun is never too bright at night.

But it's still easier to travel during the day, if the path is clear.
Area Two: In Which There Are Filing Cabinets
Does it bother you that some of the drawers are locked?

If you worry you might lose the combination to something, write it down someplace you can't lose it.

It's smart to find a system that makes combinations easy to remember.

Be careful. Those things might tip over.

Do you see anything familiar in all that sunlight?

How familiar?

What would you do if you saw a drip like that at home?

If something is taking too long, sometimes you can speed it up with a gentle push.

Maybe there was something behind those cabinets anyway.

Are you making any noises? Don't be afraid to try something new.

New or not, you're still holding something that might inspire you.

Can you see where you're going? All the way?

Sometimes there is more than one path to choose from.
Area Three: In Which There is a Gymnasium
The floor is in rough shape.

How did it get like that?

The damage is done. A little more couldn't hurt.

Righty tighty lefty loosey.

Are you making any noises? Don't be afraid to try something new.
Area Four: In Which There Is a Piano
Two halves make a whole.

Often, there is both an easy and a hard way to handle your problems.

There are a lot of blocks here.

Why would you give a child blocks like that?

Do you know what the blocks are for?

Are you sure? Don't be afraid to try new things. Especially when you can change your mind later.

Have you seen any locked doors around?

Maybe someone left a clue about that.

For you to read.

The same solution may work more than once.

You can't solve all your problems with violence.

Not even if that has worked before.

Do you see anything familiar in all that sunlight?

How familiar?

Sometimes you think you have solved a problem, yet things still don't work. In times like that, sometimes, you just have to sleep on it.

...and be patient.
Area Five: In Which There Are Statues
Do you see anything familiar in all that sunlight?

How familiar?

If you can't get to something, sometimes, the only answer is to make it come to you.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

A gentle breeze can guide your way.

More light can reveal things you didn't see before.

And sometimes to really see you need to take a closer look.

But sometimes... there's simply nothing you can do except go back to sleep.
Area Six: In Which You Are Outside
Sometimes you have to admit that overuse of a walkthrough is what spoiled the game.

This guide was helpful in finishing the game. I'm not sure what you mean with the question "How familiar?"; in the places where it's used it doesn't seem to add any further information or context to the hint before it.

I also don't think it's neccesary to preface these types of guides with a warning to not use them. If someone is looking up a guide it's because they're stuck and have decided they'd rather finish the game with some help than not at all. Some people play games to challenge themselves and others want to experience an interesting interactive story, and neither of those ways is "right" or "wrong".

Thank you so much for this guide! Even with your giude, it took me fair amout of time to figure out what I was supposed to do ... without it, I would probably never figure it out :D

This one is intentionally vague for people who prefer that sort of thing. Please feel free to read the other guide which is FAR more concrete. Good luck!
