Homesick Hint Guide
由 Primal Fear 制作
To be used if you really should be truly desperate (has a lot of spoiler tags, so no need to worry about unnecessary puzzle spoilers).

Despite that I think that the puzzles in Homesick can be solved with common knowledge (except of one which might somewhat makes sense but needs trial and error to solve it, and in the end you don't exactly know why it worked) there is still the possibility that you might get stuck with some certain details. And as "running" around aimlessly with the slow movement speed can easily become annoying (despite of the great music), I did create this hint guide.
I will concentrate only on these slightly problematic things, because I want you to explore your surrounding in the game and open your eyes before checking for hints or even the solutions.

I did prefer to make a hint guide, as I hate walkthroughs because:
A; using one means not to know where to search for your specific problem, so I likely read stuff I shouldn't be reading yet and so I spoil myself some following puzzles that I could have been solving on your own
and B; they give you directly the right solution, and I often felt angry at myself because I just missed a tiny detail that would have already helped me enough to solve the puzzle myself
and C; creators of a walkthroughs have to write down a lot of nonsensical stuff that is actually totally obvious, that nobody really needs as where would be the challenge in an adventure game otherwise (and I don't want to type my finger bloody)

How does it work?
Every section is for one area of the building in the order you basically "unlock" them. Where one ends and a new one starts you should already know after opening the second area.

I won't mention anything that is easily to find or find out by exploration. Every hint or solution builds up on the previous one, either chronologically or in terms of explicitness and every hint has a spoilertag so they are blacked out and you have to move your mouse cursor over each one individually in order to be able to read it.

"Hint optional:" means that this is a hint for an optional puzzle that doesn't need to be solved in order to finish the game.
First area
Hint:The note you find at the very beginning, take it as a hint what to do.

Hint:There is a key somewhere that you can take.

Solution:Water the flowers in your room.

Hint:The yawning is a hint.

Solution:So, go to sleep.

Hint:There is blackness in front of your door during your nightmare, that you cannot surpass?
Just as well as the door itself (opens or closes), there might be other things in the waking world that affect the situation in your nightmare.

Hint:Note that the crucial object actually doesn't have any effect anymore in the current situation in the waking world.

Hint:Did you read the big note on your door?

No solution for that, as actually the last two hints already made it too easy.
Second area
Note that I will leave out gameplay mechanics you have already learned.

Hint:There are hints about the system of the codes to unlock the locked drawers of the file cabinet, just search for them.

Hint:There is also a list with all the codes that very well hidden. So think about good hiding spots.

Solution for lazy people:The code system is 00##, while ## stands for the number of the drawer.

Hint:You can't use your bed anymore? Try to find a comfy place somewhere else.

Hint:In your nightmare all paths that don't leads back dark, so you can't enter them? Well you did something against that in the first area. Do you remember?

Hint optional:You might want to have a look into the other drawers of the file cabinets (including the locked ones), even if just for non practical reason. If the number is missing you have to find the system in how the drawers are numbered yourself.
Third area
This is the puzzle that I mean with trial and error without knowing at the end why it did actually work.

Hint:You have to turn the radiator valves and two main valves, counter clock wise seems to be opening them and clock wise is closing them (at least in my interpretation).

Hint:Opening them is the thing you need to do.

Solution for lazy people:Well, basically you just have to open the left main valve and the one of the radiator at the right side directly in front of the window front (while looking at it, obviously from the inside :D). It's no problem if you should have already turned valves of the other radiators, they don't matter at all. Aside from the two already mentioned ones only the other main valve needs to be open.
Fourth area
Hint:You find wood blocks with strange icons on them in this area. As you possibly easily noticed they represent the letters of the writing you already saw several times. Use your keyboard to replace them with actual Latin characters, Space or Backspace reset the character back to the cryptic sign.

Hint:Can't find some of the letter blocks? One is in the library, one in the room with the elevators and the piano and one is behind a door (if you should have been opening it already without noticing the letter block). All others are in that one flat where most of them are.

Hint:Did you notice this switch cabinet on the right side after passing by the piano and the elevators?

Hint:You finished the switch puzzle, but the elevator still doesn't open? How would you make a elevator come to your floor?

Hint:Did you notice that there is actually no power in the building?

Solution:After solving the switch puzzle, press the call button on the elevator, go to sleep and wait a while in front of the elevator for it to come to your floor. Keep in mind that have to keep moving while waiting to not wake up.

Hint optional:Try playing the piano, you will be surprised. You probably already found the music sheet in that room, play it.
BTW: you can place the sheet to where it belongs on the piano

Hint optional:If you are not so much into reading music, there is a music sheet for children in a room that perfectly makes sense for that. Remember that you can open furniture although that wasn't of much use for you so far (except for the file drawers).

Hint optional:Also I would highly recommend to go back to the first and second after solving the encryption puzzle in order to read letters and newspaper articles in order to learn more about the resident of these flats and the back story of the game.
Fifth area
Hint:On the question how to reach the water, you might want think back to you first basic physics lesson.

Solution for lazy people:Throw the busts into the water

Hint:Stuck in the nightmare? You probably want to move on on the outside, but indoors you have a new possibility.

Hey, i think I found out how the third area works. Just a speculation but; if the valve is on the left side and the radiator is on the right side, the valve needs to be rotated right and vice versa. For the two valves inside the door, I got it with left on both of them

this hint-thru was wonderfully helpful, thank you so much!

I loved this game. It had a couple of communicational issues: The E and the A had the same glyph (that made me doubt on the 'home sweet home' part), and I didn't know I had to type the letters , I just wrote everything in paper. And other small things, but overall I loved it, it was very beautiful graphics-wise.

so, if you can't remember which paths were dark or not, then you don't know which light switch to use, nice. This might be a nice game, if I could get around the eye pain/headache it's giving me- it's just not worth it at this point.:/ I wanted to enjoy it, I looked forward to trying it, but it stopped me from enjoying it, what a waste (for those of us with very light sensitive eyes).

At the beginning- when you mention go to sleep, I did, as I wanted to save my progress after watering the flowers- which I didn't notice were more than just grass because I was trying to avoid getting BLASTED IN THE EYES WITH THE #(o*%u(#$& WHITE SCREEN!!!!, sorry, just venting, my apologies, anyhow- the next thing- nightmare, didn't happen. I assume it should've based on what you wrote when I slept then... ?

You will be able to read it at night.
I would say that's all you need to know about it at this point.

Question, for the first area, how do I read the big note on the door? It's all gibberish.

Really appreciate the help...that block puzzle had me stumped. I was playing with a controller, so it didn't occur to me that I needed to type. :forgotten_y: :steamhappy:

Yeah, one of the best hint-throughs I've ever read. Even if it was a little obtuse a times. Thanks.
