Word from Author
I will not have the time to maintain this guide, so if you want to become a collaborator, please ask in the comments section.

If you see a mistake or glaring omission from this guide, say so in the comments. I will add your contribution and give due credit.

I haven't kept the quest names from the game. I am too lazy to check them again one by one. I don't remember very well all the rewards to all the quests, so if you see a mistake there, please correct me in the comments.

Feel free to use this guide if you want to make your own, although it would be nice to acknowledge it if you do.

Note: Steam doesn't like the word ♥♥♥♥, so I will use kcoc instead. Fun times.

Thanks to Leman Russ, Dumbass McWelldiver, George_Lman and Mr. n for their help with the guide!

DISCLAIMER: this guide was written shortly after release, when the game was quite buggy, and some content was unreachable, so this guide is not as complete as I would like it to be.
Oil Tycoon
You can find his Mansion to the North-West of Clintville. When he dismisses you, pull a gun on him and he will offer you a job.

Get rid of Rancher Bob

Tip: You can pull a gun on the Oil Tycoon when he offers your wages for an increase from 150$ to 300$. If you also kcoc your gun, you will only get 200$.

Go talk to the Beefhead Bull Gang, West from Clintville.

If you haven't helped Bob drive his buffalo to Fort Motors yet, the Gang will offer to sabotage it. Bob will count with help from the Fort. You have to kill all the buffalo before they reach the Fort. There doesn't seem to be any difference between success and failure: in all cases, the Fort will become hostile and you will need to kill Bob.

If the buffalo drive has already happened (even if you just sabotaged it), the Gang will ask you to lead them to Bob's ranch, and 4 of them will follow you around. When you reach the ranch, they will kill Bob. Go back to the Gang for a clue

When Bob is dead, go talk to the Tycoon for your money, a clue, and your next assignment.

The Map

You have to collect a map from the Banker in Clintville. While you are carrying it around, you will get ambushed by bandits in front of the Tycoon's mansion and in the screens North and South from it.

Give the map to the Tycoon for a clue and your next assignment.

The other Ranchers

You need to convince the other ranchers to leave their ranch. The Tycoon will give you 250$ in advance.

You can try to convince Richard for some 300$ if he doesn't have any Buffalo left (i.e., if he has done a drive to the Fort or sold them to you for 1000$). There does not seem to be a way to convince the other two ranchers.

You can also make them leave their ranches temporarily by telling them to fix the tracks (cf. Train Station / Sister questline) or starting a franchise with Bob (cf. Ranchers questline) if you started working for the Tycoon via the Banker (cf. Banker questline).

Or you can kill them. Richard and Cobb are isolated, so killing them is easy. Bell is more difficult because he is in Clintville. Position yourself so that nobody can see you take aim, i.e. nobody is drawing their weapon when you do, and nobody will turn hostile. It's not the end of the world if two or three clintvillians see you, just make sure it doesn't escalate further than that.

Once you are done, go back to the Tycoon for more money, a clue, and your last assignment.

The Indian Camp

Tip: You can pull a gun on the Oil Tycoon when he offers your wages for an increase from 350$ to 550$. Don't be a smartass beforehand or he will call the guards.

The NTS location of the Indian Camp will appear on your map, so you won't have to walk there.

You can either kill the Indians there, or complete the Fort or Indian questline (cf. respective questlines) in any way. In any case, the camp will be freed.

Go back to the Tycoon for your money and another clue.
Rancher Franchise
Bob's Ranch is North-West from Clintville. Talk to Bob to start the questline.

Buffalo Drive

When Bob gives you the quest, you can tell him that there are some things you need to do first. You can go talk to the Sheriff for help, but he will refuse if he hasn't found his courage again.

You need to protect the buffalo from the bandits. The buffalo will follow your vertical position, so most bullets you dodge will end up killing a buffalo. Bob wields a shotgun and can take some hits before leaving. Eliminate the three waves of bandits before they kill all the buffalo.

If you have saved enough of them, Bob will give you 300$. In any case, he will give you a clue. You can go talk to him again at his ranch for the next mission.

The Franchise

You need to try to convince the other ranchers to join Bob's franchise. Cobb and Richard will accept (at least as long as they still have buffalo, which will not be the case if you have done extra buffalo drives for Fort Motors).

You have to convince Bell. It's difficult to understand what he says. If you pick the wrong option, he will ask you if you really meant what you said. Say it wasn't and start again until he accepts to join the Franchise.

Go talk to Bob after you've talked to all three ranchers for your next assignment.

The Assault to the Mansion

One of the ranchers will stay at Bob's ranch. The others will go to the Tycoon's mansion. They will be waiting for you at the entrance. Get in the house.

A shootout will ensue. The ranchers wield shotguns, the Tycoon's guards dual revolvers. There are three rooms to go through before reaching the Tycoon. The top half of the guards in the second room will wait for you to approach them to aggro you, so don't move up until you are done with the lower half.

If Bob takes too much damage, he will escape and the mission will fail. The other ranchers will die if they get shot too much. Try to kill the guards as quickly as possible, and get in front of the ranchers if required (you shoot faster and have more hats than them).

When you reach the Tycoon's bedroom, Bob will kill him.

BUG: as of 23/04/2015, this quest is bugged. Talking to Bob here will make the quest unfinishable. Not talking to Bob here will make entering this room later crash the game.

Aftermath

Go back to Bob's ranch to tell the last rancher the good news. He will be gravely wounded. He will give you a very detailed clue of the murderer. You can shoot him to end his suffering.

Go back to the Oil Tycoon's house to talk to delusional Bob. Bring him back to Earth for a clue, and a hat every time you talk to him. Otherwise, he will give you nothing and stop talking to you (thanks Dumbass McWelldiver!).
Train Station / Sister
Clintville's Train Station is South-East from Clintville. Talk to the Train Master there to start this quest, and she will give you a clue.

Clear the Tunnel of bandits

Starting from the Train Station, follow the tracks to the West and you will reach the collapsed part of the tunnel occupied by the Beefhead Bull Gang.

The Gang is being paid by the banker to occupy the tunnel. If the Banker hasn't paid his debt to the Tycoon, you can convince the Gang to leave the Tunnel for 300$, otherwise you will need to pay 1000$.

You can also lead the Miner's Ghost (he starts in the north mine, up from the dark tunnel that connects them to the south mine) here, and the Gang will leave in terror.

You can also convince the Sheriff to accept the Gang as deputies, and they will leave the tunnel.

You can also kill them.

Go back to the Train Master for your reward, a clue and your next assignment.

Clear the Tracks of debris

The Train Master asks you to find three people used to physical work, such as ranchers and miners, to help clear the tracks.

Any of Bell, Cobb and Richard will help (you will need to convince Cobb with a shootout), as long as they are still at their respective ranches (so they won't help after they join the Rancher Franchise). The Old Miner in Clintville, the Gravedigger, and the Lost Miner (deep in the dark part of the Northern Mine) will help too. Otherwise, some random NPCs will help too, just ask around.

When you've found three people to help, go to the tunnel, where you will find the Train Master and the three people you sent have already cleared the tracks. The Train Master might give you a finder's fee reward (I am not sure what triggers it, I think it's if the three people are all ranchers or miners).

Go back to the Train Station, where the Train Master will say that she isn't receiving any correspondence. Talk to the Ticket Officer to find more about it. Tell the Train Master that the Ticket Officer is redirecting her mail. Talk to her again after she has scolded him, and she will give you a clue and tell you that your sister is coming with the next train.

Your Sister's quest

After some time, come back to the Train Station to find your sister (this will unlock her as a playable character); if you are playing as the sister, your brother will appear instead, somehow. Talk to her to start her quest. You will need to follow her around the West to complete her quest, and every time you find her after the first, she will give you a clue. Her locations, in order, are:

1. At your homestead.
2. At Fort Motors.
3. At the Graveyard (she will clear the bandits there for you).
4. At the Desert, one screen east from St Anna's Station (she will clear the bandits there for you).
5. At Lake St Anna (she will clear the bandits there for you).

Some time later, she will restore the river flow at St Anna, and stay at St Anna. Talk to her for a final clue.

WARNING: Once she restores the river flow, you will not be able to reach Ostrich Bandito Whit at Lake St Anna. Don't talk to your sister at Lake St Anna if you still have to complete the Ostrich Bandito quest (cf. Ostrich Bandito Guide).
Sheriff
His office is at Clintville. Talk to the Sheriff to start this questline.

Note: if you intend to finish the questline, you will need to befriend the Beefhead Bull Gang first (cf. Beefhead Gang questline).

Drunken Husband

The Sheriff will ask you to solve a domestic quarrel. Talk to the wife standing a bit south from his office and offer your help. Go to the saloon, talk to the husband, tell him his wife wants him out, then pull your gun on him. Go back to the wife, she will reward you with a hat (if you already have three hats, she will keep it until you need it).

Go back to the Sheriff for a clue and your next assignment.

Help Bob

You need to go talk to rancher Bob, at his ranch. The NTS location of the ranch will be added to your map. Bob will tell you that he needs help with a buffalo drive (cf. Rancher Franchise questline). After you've completed the Buffalo Drive mission, go talk to the Sheriff for another clue and your next assignment.

Sidequest: Sheriff's Redemption

Once Bob tells you what he needs, you can ask the Sheriff for help in horse fight missions; you don't need to actually do the buffalo drive, just asking Bob what he needs help with is enough. Note however that the Sheriff might try to weasel out of his duties:

-To make him accept the Carriage Protection mission (cf. Banker questline), you need to tell him that you are looking for someone reliable.

-To make him accept the Hat Delivery mission (cf. Fort questline), you need to have completed at least one other horse fight mission. Note: The devs have hinted at another way to make him accept, but unfortunately I haven't found it. Pulling a gun on him could also work (thanks Mr. n!)

-To make him accept the Buffalo Drive mission itself, the Oil Tycoon must have told you that he wants to drive Bob off his ranch. Aside from that, you must either complete two other horse fight missions first, or convince him by drawing and kcocing your gun at the right time when asking him to help you.

Some time after the Sheriff has recovered his courage by succesfully completing one or two of these missions, the murderer will free the bandits from jail. Lead the Sheriff south from Clintville for a shootout with the bandits. You will need to kill them all.

Bounties

Collect five bounties. Once you are done, go back to the Sheriff for a clue and your last assignment.

Sheriff's Deputies

The Sheriff wants deputies. If you have befriended the Beefhead Bull Gang, convince them to become the new deputies and guide them to the Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff won't accept at first. When you are given the option to tell him to give the Gang a chance, draw your gun instead, and the Sheriff will accept.
Banker
The bank is at Clintville. Talk to the banker to start this questline.

Carriage Protection

If you don't talk to the Banker about the murderer, he will offer 300$ for this job. He will add St Anna's NTS location to your map. Go to St Anna and talk to the Driver of the Express to start this mission.

Note: once you've talked to the Driver but before you start the mission, you can ask for help to the Beefhead Bull Gang or the Sheriff. Asking for help to both will make this mission quite a bit harder from all the bullets flying around, but feel free to do so.

The Carriage Protection mission will confront you to two kinds of bandits. The first kind will try to kill you. The second one will zig-zag to the carriage, take a package, and zig-zag back out of view. You have to prevent that 4 packages get stolen. Prioritize shooting the thieving bandits.

Once you've completed the mission, talk to the Driver for a bonus, and talk to the Banker for your reward and you next assignment.

The Map

Bring the map to the Tycoon. You will be ambushed by bandits at the Tycoon's mansion entrance, and on the screens directly North and South from the mansion.

Show the Tycoon the map. If you are working for him, he will be pleased with it. Otherwise, he will not accept it. Right after telling him that the Banker thought he might find it interesting, you can draw your gun on him, and he will accept the map. If you do, he will ask you to work for him, and you can start his questline from the third mission, bypassing the mission to get rid of Bob.

Go back to Clintville. One of the Bank workers will have been killed by the Murderer. The Banker will not want to talk to you. Pull your gun on him after telling him that he is a coward and he will listen to you. If the Tycoon accepted the map, he will give you a clue and 750$ and end his questline. Otherwise, he will give you your next assignment.

Collect the Dues

The Banker will tell you to collect 750$ from each of ranchers Bell, Cobb and Richard, and give him back 1850$. They have to be at their ranches for you to be able to do so.

It will turn out that they didn't really owe that much money to the Banker, so you will need to convince them. Insist as much as you can, then draw your gun to convince them to pay. Cobb will require a shootout. You will get 600$ from Bell, 750$ from Cobb, and 400$ from Richard, IIRC.

Go back to the banker. Tell him that the ranchers have paid (otherwise he will stop talking to you), then tell him that they didn't owe as much as he said. He will offer to split the money with you. Accept to end this questline.

Note: if you end the Banker's questline, he will not be indebted to the Oil Tycoon anymore. If you want to pay the Beefhead Bull Gang to leave the Tunnel, you will have to pay 1000$ instead of 300$
Fort Motors
Fort Motors is East from Clintville Station. To start this questline, talk to Lt. Fort.

Buffalo Drive

Lt. Fort will tell you that the Fort needs buffalos. They already have a deal with rancher Bob. Go talk to him to complete the Buffalo Drive (cf. Rancher Franchise questline). Once you are done, talk to Lt. Fort.

If not enough Buffalos survived the drive, you will need to talk to the other ranchers (Bell, Cobb and Richard) to start new buffalo drives. This will empty their ranches, which is relevant for the Rancher Franchise and Oil Tycoon questlines. Eventually Lt. Fort will be satisfied with the number of buffalos the Fort has.

Hat Delivery

Lt. Fort will tell you that the Fort needs hats. They tell you to go to St Anna to talk to Miss Hat at the Habberdashery. St Anna is at the Westernmost part of the map.

Talk to Miss Hat, and she will tell you to go talk to the Driver at St Anna's Express. She does not specify how the money from the Fort will be split among all of you. Talk to the Driver, and tell him that you are the messenger. He will offer 850$ for him and 150$ for you. You can draw the gun on him to make it 750$-250$. Before you leave, you can tell him to wait, and go ask the Sheriff for help with the Hat Delivery. The Hat Delivery mission works exactly like the Carriage Protection mission (cf. Banker questline).

Once you've delivered the hats, go talk to Lt. Fort who will give you 1500$ to be split among all people involved.

If you talk to the Driver first, he will want whatever amount you agreed upon earlier. You can draw your gun to reduce that to 500$-500$, and you can kcoc your gun to reduce that to 250$-750$. Then talk to Miss Hat, offer the leftover 500$, and she will tell you that her part was 1000$ and that the Driver lied to you. Go back to the Driver, tell him he cheated on you, and draw the gun to get some extra money.

You can also talk to Miss Hat first and spare yourself some trouble.

Confrontation

Once you've completed both quests, Lt. Fort will tell you that they are ready to take on the Indians. You can convince her to try Peace, or you can help them fight the Indians.

If you choose the latter, go one screen North to automatically start the fight with the Indians. If you exit the fight before the end, I think the winner will be determined depending on the number of kills on each side, and how well prepared the Fort was.

If you choose the former, you will have to convince the Indians first, then go one screen North. If you convinced both parties to try Peace, go one screen North from the Fort, and dialogue will be had. The Fort will forgive you for freeing their buffalos.

In both cases, go talk to Lt. Fort for a clue.
Indians
To start this questline, talk to the Indian Chief at the Indian Outpost. Don't tell him you thought the Ranch burner was an Indian. The Indian Outpost is directly East from the North Mine entrance; do not confuse the Indian Outpost with the Indian Camp, which is North from the Fort wall, and that you can only reach through the mines.

Free the Buffalo

The Chief will tell you that the Buffalo have to be freed. To do that, all the ranches must be empty of buffalos, which means shooting the lock and driving the buffalos there out of the fence. Anybody else in the same screen will automatically turn hostile, so be sure that you don't need to interact with them again, or that there's nobody in the screen. If the Oil Tycoon has taken over the ranch, it will also count as if the buffalo from that ranch were freed.

You can convince Bob to free his buffalos for 1250$ (1000$ if you pull your gun on him, thanks Mr. n), and Richard for 1000$. You can convince Cobb with a shootout. There does not seem to be a way to convince Bell or the Fort.

You have to free the buffalo from all four ranchers (Bob, Bell, Cobb, Richard) and Fort Motors. Sometimes the Chief will be satisfied even though one of them still has their buffalo, but I am not sure why. When you are done, go talk to the Chief again for a clue and your next assignment.

Meet the Chief's Brother

If you want Peace between the Indians and the Fort, you will have to convince the Indian Chief as you start this quest. You will have to accept to side with the Indians if a fight ends up happening.

Follow the North Mines East, then South, until you reach the Indian camp, or if you have reached the final mission of the Oil Tycoon questline, just take a horse there. Do not go through the Fort's wall, or you will side with the Fort in the fight. Give the Chief's brother the amulet, and he will march against the Fort (independently of whether the Chief wants Peace or not).

Confrontation

Go South towards the Fort's wall. If you chose Peace, and you had convinced Lt. Fort too, dialogue will be had. The Fort will forgive you for freeing their buffalos, go back to the Fort to talk to the Indian Chief for a clue and the end of the questline.

Otherwise, the fight with the Fort soldiers will start automatically. If you exit the fight before the end, I think the winner will be determined depending on the number of kills on each side, and how well prepared the Fort was. If you succeed, go back to the Fort to talk to the Indian Chief for a clue, a tomahawk, and your last assignment.

Clindianville

The Indian Chief will ask you to help them take over Clintville. Go there to fight against its inhabitants with the help of the Indians. If you succeed, you will receive a clue and an Indian hat (and you will unlock the Indian character), and the town will be occupied by the Indians, so you won't have access to the Banker or the Sheriff anymore. The Station and other neighbouring screens will stay as normal.
Others
Miss Tress

Talk to her at the Sheriff's office, then at Clintville's saloon, then at Bob's ranch and the Oil Tycoon's mansion in either order. If the Sheriff recovers his courage, Bob gets his franchise or the Oil Tycoon establishes his empire and you talk to her, she will stay with them.

Otherwise, go talk to her at her personal lodge, south-West from Clintville. You will get in, and you can tell her that you are looking for a house. If you aren't a murderer (I don't know exactly how that happens, it might be tied to a dead pretender, according to Leman Russ, or killing 200 people, according to George_Lman), she will ask you to get 1500$, and you will lock out the other pretenders. Talk to her again when you have the money, and she will give you 1500$ more. Go to the bank to buy the riverside house. Go talk to Miss Tress again, and she will follow you to the house. When she gets in, she will give you a clue.

Beefhead Bull Gang

You can befriend them if you work for the Oil Tycoon (cf. Oil Tycoon questline), or if you ask for help protecting or robbing the Banker's delivery (cf. Banker questline). They will give you a clue after each job.

If you decide to rob the Banker's delivery instead of protecting it, you will get the Banker's map and up to 400$. You can give the map to the Tycoon in the Banker's name, and the Banker will forgive you and pay 750$. If you talk to the Banker first, he will take the map from you, and refuse to talk to you until you prove yourself "on the right side of the law". In any case, the Driver won't talk to you again, which means you won't be able to do the Hat delivery for the Fort. The mission itself will have you running back and forth from the Carriage to a Beefhead Bull that is waiting for your packages. You have to get 6 of them. There will be Bank officers shooting at you and the Gang. Zig-zag a lot to make sure that they don't shoot at the Beefhead Bull that is waiting for the package.

If you like suffering, you can ask them if they have a job after you befriend them. They will say that you can help them rob the Bank (and will stop talking about anything else, so don't ask about the job if you intend to do something with them later). If you accept, go to the bank, draw your gun on a worker and say that it's a holdup. The Gang will appear. Get the money, and run out of Clintville. Everybody will shoot at you, and all exits you approach will be blocked except the last one. Once you are out, join the Gang at their hideout. They will ask for 200$ of the robbery, more if some of them died.

Robbing the bank empties Clintville of named NPCs, and blocks access to the Bank and the Sheriff. So don't rob the bank if you still have quests to complete in the town.

Bonafide Hideout

To access the Bonafide Hideout, you will need to find the three Animal Statues hidden in the caves, and activate them in any order (thanks Leman Russ for checking!).

The Fox Statue is in the caves to the North-West that you can access via the Abandoned Town Oil Rig or from the entrance North from the Oil Tycoon mansion.

The Owl Statue is in the dark part of the northern caves, North from the Hailshot Sisters house.

The Snake Statue is in the south caves, East from the Desert Hole to the caves.

Once you have activated the statues, the door to the Bonafide Hideout will open. It's deep in the dark part of the northern mines, South from where the Lost Miner resides. You will find the last Bonafide Hideout, that will give you a clue (thanks Leman Russ), and his stash with 470$.

Buffalo Idol

Please see the Golden Buffalo Guide.

Ostrich Banditos

Please see the Ostrich Banditos Guide.

Old Miner

He's at Clintville, he wants an old ticket from the Train Station. Go talk to the Ticket Officer there. If you haven't told the Train Master that the Ticket Officer has been redirecting her mail, the Ticket Officer will give you the ticket for free, otherwise you will have to pay 25$. Go back to the Old Miner for a miner's hat, and the possibility to buy it at the Habberdashery.

Lost Miner

There's a Miner's Widow at the entrance to the North Mines. Tell her you will help her find the remains of her husband. Follow the mines North and into the dark part of them (you will need a miner's hat to see your way around), then follow the tracks until you find the Lost Miner.

Talk to him. You can convince him to go back to his wife, or he will ask you to tell his wife that he is dead. If the former, go back out with him, and the quest will be considerered failed when they meet again and go to St Anna. If the latter, go back to talk to the Widow, and she will go back to St Anna, then go talk to the Lost Miner again, and the quest will be considered complete.

In both cases, you can go talk to the "Widow" at St Anna for some money and a clue.

Ghost Miner

He is North from the central dark part of the mines. Lead him some way South from where he starts until you see stairs going up, and you will find his pickaxe.

Tip: you can first lead him to the collapsed part of the Tunnel to scare the Beefhead Bull Gang from there.

Habberdasher

Talk to Miss Hat and she will tell you that she needs help running her shop. Walk outside and talk to random women NPCs until three of them agree to help. Go talk to Miss Hat again for a hat. The range of hats that you can buy will also be expanded.

@Coolsworth you just gotta:

-Talk to the Oil Tycoon
-Talk to Bob and tell him bandits are coming and leave him on his own
-Talk to the beefheads and fail the Buffalo hunt (can even get the sheriff to help before talking to Bob so he gets his courage back)
-Then talk to Bob, he'll laugh at you, offer to help and he'll give you his hat.

PART 3

This patch also mentions making the beefhead burger unlock easier to achieve, which I assume lowered the number of escort missions required and reduced the time it takes to trigger, which has now made getting them as deputies near impossible. As far as I can tell the only way to get them as deputies is to lock yourself out of either the Fort or Rancher questlines. The only possible way to avoid this is to somehow obtain Bob's hat. I have no Idea how you do this, I've tried shooting it off his head, but that just made him shoot me. I'm losing my mind here, if anyone knows how to find this mythical hat, or how to get the beefheads to become deputies without locking off questlines, PLEASE TELL ME.

PART 2

B) kill bob, locking you out of the rancher questline. I have seen some old posts online and 1 screenshot https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=444566169 showing a quest called Foolin' Beefheads where you show them Bob's hat to convince them he is dead. This hat is also mentioned in the notes for patch 2. https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/games/275200/announcements/detail/111811160945047791?snr=2_9_100015_
Coolsworth 2023 年 8 月 26 日 上午 4:34
PART 1
As far as I can tell, it is impossible to get the Beefheads as deputies if you befriend them via protecting the banker's shipment.

This is because helping Rancher Bob is mandatory for the sheriff questline to progress. It seems that successfully completing 2 escort missions automatically makes the Beefheads leave and start a Burger stand.

It seems the only way to get them as deputies is to either:

A) rob the banker's shipment. This locks you out of the fort questline, since you can't do the hat shipment after since the driver won't talk to you. You also can't do it before, as the hat escort plus helping bob's buffalo run = 2 escort missions, which again automatically triggers the burger stand.

Thank you @George_Lman and @Mr. n for the tips. I've added them to the guide (should be visible after Steam updates it)
Mr. n 2022 年 10 月 26 日 下午 2:33
If you draw gun on Bob, he'll sell you Buffalos for 1000 instead of 1250.

About the Sheriff -
The devs have hinted at another way to make him accept, but unfortunately I haven't found it.
IIRC it's just pulling a gun on him (and preparing it to fire?) at some point of the conversation.

Thanks for the guide, I thought I knew the game well, but I have never encountered two of the things you mentioned :).

@cardinalfire this happens if you kill more than 200 people and bandits run away from you

I'll use this, thanks. Does anyone know why miss tress thinks im a murderer and how to stop that happening?
