An important note.
Unfortunately, not every single hat works with this method. If you load it up and the parts that are paintable are black, then it most likely will not work. The paint will show up under lights slightly, but you'll have to be careful with how you edit the lights.

1. Right click on the hat model in the animation set viewer and select Add Override Materials.

2. Right click again, hover over Show in Element Viewer, then select Model

3. Expand the option called Materials, and then expand what's underneath it (If the hat originally has team colouring, expand the one that has the teamcolour you want).

4. Next to $colortint_base, there'll be a box. Click it, and then you can go wild with the colours. If you want the exact paint values, search them up and put the RGB values in R, G and B.

It changes the shade of blu/red but not the acctual colour

I do this for the defiant spartan which supports paints is not black and i did all of the steps ON teh cosmetic. I change the colour in the viewer but it doesnt not change it in the sfm world

@Munchy: There's some Workshop items that fixes the texture. But require the Workshop files be more priority than TF2 ones.
