How to farm Shadow Plorts in Slime Rancher 2
由 disJaibled 制作
Shadow Slimes are likely most difficult thing to farm in the story of Slime Rancher 2. They are illusive, easily frightened and (most annoyingly) required for progression. When venturing into The Grey Labyrinth, Ranchers should make a plan to expedite the process of gathering their droppings as efficiently as possible for time saving purposes. To offer ideas for this, I have made this guide.

How are Shadow Plorts found?
Shadow Slimes do not eat. This is the first thing a player will discover when reading the slimepedia, begging the question; how do I get shadow plorts?

A Shadow Slime will only produce plorts when it collides with an item, and will drop plorts every time this happens, in chunks of 1-2, until it flees. This can be done with food or plorts from other slimes, including Shadow Plorts.

For key points about Shadow Slimes:
  • They will only produce a plort when they collide with a dropped item

  • When a Shadow Slime drops a plort, it will enter a panicked state, beginning the timer for its decay.

  • A Shadow Slime may spawn naturally or be spawned forcefully by breaking shadow pots.

  • Shadow Slimes borne from shadow pots will spawn already panicked.
Why go through this effort?
As of writing this guide, there are 25 Shadow Plort Doors across The Gray Labyrinth, totalling in little under 800 Shadow Plorts needed to unlock them all.
Using this method, I yield 70-160 Shadow Plorts per jar used, sometimes earning me over a hundred in a single cycle.
But even without the upside of its yield, this is also fantastic because it's safe from Tarrs and perfect as a place to store excess Shadow Plorts.
How The Method Works.
The key to this method is to target the slimes at the top of the pile such that slimes at the bottom become sandwiched between dropped items, maximising their yield. Like So:

This amazing cave painting is meant to depict a chain of events:
  • Beatrix shoots the junk item at the highest layer of Shadow Slimes, spawning plorts
  • Those plorts drop down onto the slimes below them, causing more plorts to spawn
  • The slimes fall into their own plorts, spawning even more.
  • From panic, they bounce up into the plorts from Step 1, dropping even more.
This continues until all slimes decay or escape.
What You Will Need.
To Enter The Dream Land
  • 2 Radiant Projectors
To Execute The Method
  • Warp Depots
  • Full Pockets

For this guide, I recommend having at least 5 storage slots with a capacity of 50 each.
Shadow Slime Jars.

These are bluey-black variants of the normal loot jars you will encounter during your playtime. When broken, they spawn Shadow Slimes. Since Shadow Slimes cannot be stored in the VacPac, jars are the only way of controlling where you farm shadow plorts.

For the scope of this guide, I will be focussing on Jar farming as they are plentiful through The Grey Labyrinth.
Setting up the farming location in The Dream Land.
When you find a Shadow Jar, hold it with your VacPac and transport it to the pipes above the mirror room in The Dream Land, as shown on the map below

When you arrive at the location, set up as many warp depots as you have, so you can drop their twins down whenever you may need to open a shadow plort door.

Next, make your way outside and enter the building through the pipeworks above.

After entering the pipeworks, turning right will lead you to a drop impeded by a grate, whilst turning left will drop you into the room below.

From here, ready your hotbar onto the junk item we want to fire at the slimes, hold the shadow pot with the VacPac and start firing continuously until all shadow slimes have decayed.

Video Companion.
Here I have linked a mostly unedited video going through this process in order to help in case you get stuck at any point. Be aware that my mechanics are bad and I'm prone to dillydallying, so I recommend watching at 2x speed.
Thank You For Reading!
I plan to amend this guide as I continue playing if I find any alternative spots to farm. I am aware of another good spot near the Ember Valley Portal but it is locked behind a plort gate and doesn't take advantage of gravity to force extra plort generations, so I didn't include it in my guide.

There is a better way to do this. you can teleport through portals with a shadow pot in your hand. so basically you bring one home fill an entire corral with chickens and LIGHTLY put the pot in and grab one more chicken to break the pot. if you try to shoot it in the corral it will just break on the wall and not go in. but after you break the pot inside the corral you use your air push upgrade on your vac and just keep pushing them into the chickens so they dont break the roof.
