How to Play Cloudheim
Cloudheim is focused on fast-paced combat against hordes of enemies, occasionally broken up by trips back to your base[techraptor.net] to craft new items[techraptor.net] and sell things in your shop.[techraptor.net]

Below, we'll go into a little detail about the core game mechanics. After that, we'll explain the HUD, and then we'll give you a walkthrough for the first hour or so of the game!
Exploring the World
Naturally, a big part of Cloudheim is exploring the world[techraptor.net]. The world is split into several different islands, the first of which is Arcadia. Each island had hundreds of enemies, a bunch of treasure chests, and some quests to complete — some of which take place inside dungeons.

Completing quests and dungeons will give you Worldstars (which are used to unlock new islands) and Corrupted Heart Fragments (which are used to increase your maximum health).
Building Your Base
Between adventure runs, you'll have to return to Odin Shell to craft items and build out your base. Cloudheim doesn't have a massively complex base-building mechanics, but it is nonetheless useful.

A key element of your base at Odin Shell are "Blins." These helpful little creatures can man stations at certain buildings and generate resources[techraptor.net] for you or provide bonuses. Generated resources will spawn every time you return to Odin Shell from an adventure in the overworld.
Upgrading Your Runari Character
Odin Shell is also used to upgrade your character. This is mainly done by building certain structures that provide passive bonuses or upgrading your equipment at the Forge.

You can also use the Cleansing Pool to purify 3 Corrupted Heart Fragments into Heart Pieces; 3 Heart Pieces can then be combined into one Full Heart at the Cleansing Pool, permanently upgrading your health by 1 Heart.
Completing Quests and Defeating Bosses
There's more to Cloudheim than blind adventuring; you'll also have quests to complete as you explore the world. Some of the quests may involve somewhat challenging puzzles, but the majority of the early game content is focused on defeating enemies and clearing dungeons.

Quests often take place inside of dungeons at some point or require you to beat a boss; both bosses and dungeons are excellent sources of good loot.
Unlocking New Islands
As you progress through the world, you'll collect "Worldstars." Worldstars are a special currency that are used to open up new areas on the map.

When you have enough Worldstars, simply interact with the Bifrost gate on Odin Shell and click on the island you wish to unlock. Worldstars are not consumed when you unlock an island.
Cloudheim HUD Explanation
The Cloudheim HUD is slightly different depending on whether you're in the overworld or you're on Odin Shell. We'll explain the regular combat HUD first, and then we'll explain the HUD you'll see on Odin Shell.
  1. Party: Your current party (and their health) is shown on the top left of the screen. If you're playing solo, it will only show your character's info.
  2. Enemy Info: The name, health, and armor of enemies are shown on screen when you're close to them.
  3. Collected Items: Any items you pick up are briefly shown on the left side of the screen.
  4. Boss Health: When fighting a boss, its name, health, and armor are shown on the top center of the screen.
  5. Compass: The Compass is always shown at the top center of the screen.
  6. Objective Marker: When you have an active quest, the objective marker is shown on the HUD as a yellow dot.
  7. Objectives: Your current quest objectives are always shown on the top left. Keep in mind that your active quest changes depending on which region of the map you're currently visiting.
  8. Map Hotkey: The map hotkey is shown on the bottom left.
  9. Mana Burn: If you use abilities that have run out of cooldowns, you will start to build up "Mana Burn," which is represented by a blue bar at the bottom center of the screen. If this bar fills up, you will greatly slow down and lose access to your abilities for a short time.
  10. Health: Your own health is represented by hearts at the bottom center of the screen.
  11. Level and Experience: Your current level and your experience bar are shown at the bottom center of the s creen.
  12. Abilities: All of your equipped abilities are shown in an array at the bottom right of the screen.
  1. Shop Level: The bar at the top right shows your shop level and your progress toward the next Shop Level.
  2. Gold: This bar shows how much Gold you have.
  3. Stardust: This bar shows how much Stardust you have.
  4. Shop Status: This sign shows whether your shop is open or closed. It will also show you what customers who are currently visiting wish to buy.
  5. Cursor Context: Any context-sensitive options will appear on screen as shown when you're close to something you can interact with.
  6. Inventory: You can hold four items (or stacks of items) in your hand while on Odin Shell; this can be upgraded by building a certain statue.
  7. Controls: Your controls for interacting with buildings on Odin Shell are shown on the bottom right of the screen.
Starter Guide Walkthrough
Now that we've explained the basic gameplay mechanics and the HUD, it's time to get to the walkthrough portion of our Cloudheim Starter Guide! Below, we'll help you get through the first bits of the game so you can get your journey started.
Starting a Campaign
The first thing you'll want to do when starting a new game of Cloudheim is to choose your character's appearance. This has no effect on the gameplay whatsoever; it's purely a cosmetic choice. You can change your appearance at any time via the Escape menu or on the main menu.

Next, you'll want to start a fresh campaign. You'll have some options to pick from, including how other players join, enemy difficulty, mastery progress, and more.
Exploring the Ruins
Once you've started the campaign, you will awaken in some ruins; this is the tutorial section. You'll be prompted to learn how to triple jump and use the lasso as you go forward; just follow the onscreen instructions to progress.

It's important to note that you get loot by destroying things in Cloudheim. Make sure to bash any furniture, barrels, boxes, or broken walls as you move through the ruins.

There are a few more sections ahead, but it's pretty straightforward. Eventually, you'll reach a statue holding a bunch of colored objects.
Choosing Your Starting Class
The first major decision you'll have to make in the tutorial is choosing your class. There are four options:
  • Runeblade: A versatile spellcaster with ranged spellcasting and healing abilities. Slow attack speed.
  • Sentinel: A defensive fighter who uses shields and physics objects. Medium attack speed.
  • Breaker: A powerful warrior who gets bonus damage against armor. Very slow attack speed.
  • Ranger: A highly mobile fighter with a fast rate of attack. Fast attack speed.
There is no real "best" option here; simply pick which one appeals to you the most. Your class in Cloudheim is based on the weapon you are wielding. Crafting another weapon at the Forge effectively allows you to switch to another class and unlock new skills and abilities.

It's time to move on. Keep moving forward through the ruins. You'll have to beat up a few enemies and a boss; you'll also rescue Gnasher[techraptor.net], a friendly blue creature who will help you later.

You'll find another Bifrost gate after some more combat encounters. Go through it, and you'll make your way to your base.
Arriving at Odin Shell
The Bifrost gate has deposited you at Odin Shell — an island on the back of a flying turtle. Walk ahead and you'll see a small creature named Bill who you can talk to.

Bill is Blin; Blins are helpful creatures who can collect crafting materials and work at your buildings for you once you've found them.

You're asked to "put the finishing touches" on a Blin House; interact with it and click the "Establish Blin Settlement" button to get your very own little town started.
Building Your Base
Now it's time to do a bit of building. Press C to go into building mode and place a Blin Construction Guild; this will, in turn, unlock several more buildings. You'll need to build a Smelter, Forge, and Gnasher Nest.
Retrieve the Rusty Metal Ore that you've acquired from the Bifrost Chest and place it into the Smelter to start processing it; the Smelter will begin to spit out Rusty Metal Bars.

You can then place three of the Rusty Metal Bars onto one of the four sides of the Forge; each side of the Forge corresponds to one of the four main classes. If you want to experiment with other classes, now is your chance to try switching.

Do note that any additional weapons you craft are stored in your inventory; you can essentially switch them at any time when you're out in the world.

Next, build the Dual Blades of Eitri and the Viking Brews. These statues are a way for you to enhance your character akin to purchasing skills; these allow you to have an additional weapon slot and some post-combat healing, respectively.

When these buildings are done, walk over to the Bifrost gate — it's time to head to Arcadia.
Exploring Arcadia
Go to the Bifrost gate and click on it. Click on Arcadia and unlock the island, then click "Explore" to head to this island. Confirm travel, and you will arrive there after a countdown of a few seconds has completed.

You will enter Arcadia at the Proving Grounds location on the map. You'll have to pass through the Proving Grounds and Old Wall, before ultimately arriving at Fiblin Field.

Note that you don't have to actually fight the enemies here, and I don't think you should; the starting weapons don't have the greatest damage. Instead, you should try to bypass as many enemies as possible until you get to Fiblin Field.

Run past Wren and look for a glowing red pile of rocks; interact with it to activate a Sylf Statue. These statues serve as respawn points; you can also get healing here.

Hold off on talking to Wren. Look around the outskirts of the field for these sharp, black stones.
This is a Mining Spot. Destroy these stones and you'll get corrupted Tin and Copper ore. You'll want to run around the area, avoiding combat and smashing these rocks until you get 27 Crude Tin Ore.

There are plenty of Mining Spots in the area around Fiblin Field, so just run around for a bit and collect the ore. You can also potentially get some from chests in the area, some of which are opened by solving pressure plate puzzles.

When you have 27 Crude Tin Ore, you should finally speak with Wren. He'll tell you to go back to Odin Shell; open up the map and hit the button to return home.
